Warehouse Stocker

May - August 2020 • Kansas City, KS

What I liked

The people around me and managers were very helpful, enthusiastic, and nice, especially considering it was the night shift.

What I wish was different

I think actively training for new jobs around the warehouse would help break up the long shifts as opposed to waiting until other departments need help. Would also be a lot easier to run efficiently if more people knew more than one job.

Advice

I would recommend getting to know some people there so the shifts don't feel so long. Also get some nice shoes... you'll need them.

Warehouse Associate

June - August 2020 • San Bernardino, CA

What I liked

Pay was very competitive.

What I wish was different

Less hours at a more convenient time.

Advice

It takes a special type of person to thrive in a warehouse environment, so just think about that. Also, don't be so uptight about doing things super fast, because it's kind of like a marathon, not a sprint, when you work in a physical warehouse kind of setting.

Warehouse Clerk

May 2020 • Hoboken, NJ

What I liked

I liked how the schedule is so flexible. I fix my own schedule and get to work whenever I want. Also I like the pay which was impressive to me.

What I wish was different

What I wish was different is if they had posted more shifts so I can have more hours in my schedule.

Advice

It is a good fulfillment center to work at, organized and clean too. If you plan to work there make sure you ready to move fast and ready to be working at the chiller and the freezer from time to time.

amazon

May - August 2020 • Hebron, KY

What I liked

It was a safe environment, not much was said much maybe because we were wearing masks but there felt like there was an unspoken language that people used and the work wasn't daunting and felt like a good workout most days.

What I wish was different

The managers that would survey the building were helpful most of the time, but I never knew really where I could ask someone regarding shifts.

Advice

I would say that there should be some figure head or leadership role figure that you could report to at any minute for important issues.

Associate

May - August 2020 • Portland, OR

What I liked

I loved the work environment, the work in general, and the mangers. Working at Amazon will be something I will never forget, as it was a great job, especially for my first job. It was great to see how the managers always wanted us to succeed.

What I wish was different

Honestly, nothing. I enjoyed every second of working. Even though I worked overnight shifts, my experience was not negatively affected.

Advice

Work hard and make your managers proud. Do not work hard when your manager comes over to have to babysit you. For me, I was the top inductor and one of the faster scanners, which was great. I did not go slower just because I was in the top, as there are always ways to improve. It also looks good when your managers see that you work hard every second of your job.

Fulfillment Associate

July - September 2020 • Rialto, CA

What I liked

It was an easy job.

What I wish was different

I wish they would have taken others' circumstances into consideration. Not everyone drives a car and some people go to school but the way their school accommodation works is just terrible. I had to quit because they refused to work with my schedule. I also wish it wasn't so impersonal, everything was done through computer. I barely even knew who my supervisor was.

Advice

Only work there if you're really desperate. The job is easy, but repetitive and it can wear you down fast, makes you wish the day would go by faster.

PA problem solver

June 2020 • Aurora, IL

What I liked

What I like about working at amazon is that as a college student, they offer so many support for you. They work with your schedule and even have tuition reimbursement. They also have time for you to take off or get more hours if needed. In just five months I managed to go from a regular warehouse worker to now a PA problem solver!

What I wish was different

What I wish it had been different is nothing actually. I wish I could have started sooner.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share with others about this experience is to learn to adjust to the schedule. You only work four days out of the week and it is 10 hour shifts - learn how to manage your time and social life! Once that is covered and you have a balanced and healthy schedule everything will be a piece of cake!

Supply Chain Logistics Intern

July - August 2020 • Windsor, CT

What I liked

I loved the opportunity to work with the World's largest online retailer and to be apart of their commitment to community impact. My role as an intern on the project was to improve the current process of connecting donations from the Fulfillment Center to charities in the surrounding area. Our deliverables included a prototype of a website where donation sites can log in and access information about the donations and pick up. In addition, we added 10 new donation sites in Hartford, CT using a needs based selection process we created.

What I wish was different

Due to the pandemic my internship partner and I did not get to visit the Fulfillment Center in person. If I could have changed one thing about my experience I would have liked to visually see the warehouse and meet the employees in person. Regardless, we were able to share videos and understand the process of waste and donations at the Fulfillment Center.

Advice

My biggest piece of advice is to take initiative. Secondly, ask questions. No question is a bad question. Last, be confident with your contributions/recommendations/or suggestions.
