Warehouse Associate

June - August 2019 • Sussex, WI

What I liked

What I wish was different

This facility had a lot of changes that happened while I was employed there. Basically, the entire system of how packages are store changed and it was really frustrating to a lot of the employees. The new system consisted of a higher layout which was completely out of a safe range of lifting. This made a lot of employees have to use step stools in order to safely reach the new layout - which caused a very big safety problem. The managers did not seem concerned with this. It also drove our numbers down significantly. Another thing that I wish had been different was the way employees were trained. We shadowed an employee for about an hour and then were off on our own and that is all we were taught. Also, communication between management was always a problem. One manager would tell you one thing and the next one would tell you the complete opposite. It was hard to know who to listen too.

Package Handler

May - August 2019 • Aurora, CO

What I liked

It was a very active job, it was hands on, required little training, and coworkers were very friendly.

What I wish was different

The week consisted of four 10 hour shifts, some weeks had mandatory overtime, and sometimes it was a high stress job because of all the deadlines.

Advice

You don’t have to be the most skilled worker there, you just have to show that you’re willing to work harder than most people there.

Shopper

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really liked working at Amazon. I have good memory so shopping for items for customers was enjoyable.

What I wish was different

The availability of working hours was competitive. More hours were available after I left for college.

Advice

There’s a lot of free time, during that time shoppers should learn where various items are around the store. This is so when an order comes in shoppers are able to minimize their amount of time shopping. Which will result in customers getting their items on time.

amazon warehouse employee

May - August 2019 • Jefferson, GA

What I liked

The pay and somewhat flexible schedule.

What I wish was different

That the managers treated you as someone with a brain instead of treating you like an idiot that needed to be babied through every tiny task. It was also inefficiently run because of this which was frustrating.

Advice

It's not a hard job and you get paid well, but it's very boring. Be ready for a brainless job.

Amazon Fulfillment Associate

Amazon warehouse associate

August 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

Paid weekly Only 15 minutes away Got me in physical shape Made good friends Opportunity to grow

What I wish was different

Shorter work day (its 10 hours, four days a week) Switch between tasks. (We move itmes into robots and it's very rough on the body, took most people 1 month to get used to it) Managers work along side us.

Advice

If you work there, keep your eye on moving forward and being positive. You are stuck in a warehouse with no natural light and your work never ends. Keep positive and that would help. Remember to make friends and to enjoy it. The physical part is super hard. It will be painful to wall after work, so relax a little and stretch. This will make you strong.

Sortation Associate

May - September 2019 • Kenosha, WI

What I liked

The job is exactly what they tell you when you’re hired. It isn’t difficult and they’re very upfront about it.

What I wish was different

There are days when you only work three hours then leave. It’s hard to make a reliable income when you can be released at any time. Also, the work is redundant, it’s very manageable, but some days it was hard to not feel a bit numb.

Advice

This job is all about attitude. You absolutely get out of it what you are willing to put into it.
