Warehouse Associate

July - September 2018 • Kent, WA

What I liked

There was a set schedule and I was not required to enter when I wasn't scheduled. In other words, I was not asked to come in on days I had not agreed to come in on (though I could volunteer to). Management and coworkers were very nice too. The role was also very physical and required a lot of heavy lifting which is a plus as it kept me active.

What I wish was different

The work was very monotonous, so I wish there was more opportunity to do more around the warehouse. It also did not feel like a position where you could eventually advance in. Shifts were also oftentimes "flexed up" and the 4 hour shift would increase by up to an extra hour.

Advice

It's not as bad as media makes it out to be but the work is still tough and it is understandable why the retention rate of Amazon Fulfillment employees is so low (not because you get treated poorly but because the work requires so much physical activity; you're on your feet the entire shift). Go in, make friends, and be ready to work.

October 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I was delivering amazon packages on foot throughout New York City, from Downtown Manhattan to up north as far as Inwood. For someone who is new to the city, it was an amazing experience to roam around, see the city, know the various areas, understand how the transportation works, got used to the city and best of all I got paid.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had the opportunity to continue there. Due to personal reasons I had to move out of the dorm so I couldn't continue anymore. The job was amazing. My fellow colleagues used to complain about a lot of stuff but I took everything positively and it turned out to be one of the best semi-jobs I ever did.

Advice

Even if you have been in this city for years, it will still amaze you. So go out and explore. And also, please try to be nice to delivery guys, have been through a few rough patches to quickly deliver as much as I could so, just don't pour the city's anger on them.
