Lockheed Martin

Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Fort Worth, TX

What I liked

Really engaging, interesting work with real-life applications. The people are also really nice and helpful, just ask!

What I wish was different

You have to take the initiative to network yourself, intern events aren't as great, but it's honestly more so what you make it.

Advice

It's really easy to just work and not make any connections, take the time to do that!

Mechanical Engineering Stress Analyst Intern

May - August 2019 • Sunnyvale, CA

What I liked

The work environment with a supportive community and mentors to guide me. They helped me acclimate to the work and location. The work itself was technical and helped me build my skills as an engineer.

What I wish was different

I wish they had helped me find housing. I was moving cross-country for the internship. They gave me a stipend, but I had to find my housing myself

Advice

Explore. Don't just go to work and go home. Take day trips. Take weekend trips. Just get out there and discover everything you can in the short time you are there.

Finance Intern

May - July 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I gained valuable experience working in finance and learning what it's like to be in a corporate environment. I worked on my excel skills, presentation skills, and overall business acumen skills.

What I wish was different

Nothing! I had an amazing experience.

Advice

I had given up on this company and they finally got back to me-- the recruiting process can be slow but stick with it if it's your dream company!

HR Intern

May - August 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I loved my coworker's passion for their jobs and the HR industry. Everyone I worked with was eager to teach me things they had learned and found valuable. I was given projects that were fun to work on, and stretched my skills.

What I wish was different

A better on-boarding experience would have impacted my initial impression of the company. I wish my recruiter would have been more responsive and consistent in communicating with me, and that there would have been messages leading up to my start date with welcoming information.

Advice

Ask for feedback on a regular basis from your supervisor; they want you to succeed and have so many network connections you can learn from. Communicating your expectations of the internship with them and reviewing your progress helps you to have the experience you want and them to understand where they can help you grow.

Human Resources Intern

May - August 2019 • Titusville, FL

What I liked

The culture is great. They really care about employees achieving their goals. If employees want to try a new job role, the managers do a great job of helping the employees to accomplish that. They also help their employees be successful in their job roles and give them plenty of resources to do that. I also really liked that they have a 9X80 work schedule. This means that M-TH employees work 9 hours and then work 8 hours every other Friday. This equates to 36 hours one week and 44 another week. It seems like a lot in one week, but it isn't bad and totally worth it to have a Friday off. I also liked that we got paid every Friday.

Human Resources Intern

May - August 2019 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I really enjoyed being able to do actual work that had an impact on the business. The culture was great with the company and I loved all of those that I worked with!

What I wish was different

I do wish that the recruiting side of my internship had been better. I didn't receive as much communication through that process as I would have liked.

Advice

I would say to do your best and take on things that you aren't sure you can do! There's so much room for learning and growth and an internship is a great way to expand that growth. Don't hesitate to reach out for projects that are outside of your area so that you can learn other skills!

Computer Research Scientist Intern

May 2019 • Arlington County, VA

What I liked

The atmosphere is fun, they have a great team of engineers who welcome you with open arms and treat you as an equal. The work is intense and exciting, you contribute to important projects and can see the impact you have. Every person there is happy to answer your questions; I am continuously picking their brains. They challenge you to step outside your comfort zone so that you can grow, but you never feel like you've been thrown in the deep end. There is minimal "bloat" to the internship program; you begin on your project within a day or two of starting. This was an incredible experience.

What I wish was different

The hiring process could have been a little smoother. A lot of the communication was handled by HR interns, and sometimes the ball got dropped mid-communication, requiring me to reach out to others.

Advice

Take notes on any constructive feedback you get, whether it be at a career fair or during/after an interview. I was informed of knowledge areas I lacked, and knew what to focus on going forward to set myself apart. Take their advice to heart and put in the effort to better those areas! This will help you in your career now and in the future.

What I liked

I enjoyed learning about the type of work that Lockheed Martin does, and meeting so many new people. I really enjoyed an offsite vendor trip in NY. It was really interesting to see how many different parts are used in their product, and how detailed it is to track all of those parts.

What I wish was different

I would have liked more vendor contact.
