Lockheed Martin

Aeronautical Engineering Intern

June - August 2020 • Marietta, GA

What I liked

I liked the people I worked with. They were always willing to help me even if they were busy too. They wanted me to succeed.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have met more of the people on my team, but COVID prevented me from meeting most of them.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions or ask for help.

Talent Management Intern

June - August 2020 • Fort Worth, TX

What I liked

Lockheed was able to create a strong virtual internship program in such little time. I was very impressed by the virtual events they hosted biweekly for the interns so that all 500 of us could learn more about what each business unit at the company does. Also, my team was always supportive and gave me impactful projects to work on.

What I wish was different

I would have loved to work in person, but I appreciate Lockheed valuing our safety and switching most of the interns to a virtual platform.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask for help! At first, I felt a bit intimidated by some of the employees on the leadership team. However, I realized that they like to help and appreciate when someone asks, especially an intern who is still learning.

College Tech Spec. Intern

June - December 2020 • Fort Worth, TX

What I liked

I got to work remote, they sent me all the necessary computer equipment and a monitor, and I got to learn many valuable tools. I also got to participate in SAFe training (agile workflow) and learn to use Sikuli (image processing platform) as well as SAP WebIntelligence. They also extended my internship part time into the fall.

What I wish was different

Advice

Always investigate the possibility of an internship extension especially if you are working remotely.

June - August 2020 • Grand Prairie, TX

What I liked

Everyone loved working there and was willing to help me with anything I needed. The other interns were inclusive and the program overall was awesome.

What I wish was different

I did a purely virtual internship and I would've liked to be able to come in and see the campus or meet my team.

Advice

Ask questions and get to know the people you're working with. Network and get involved in other aspects of the company, not just the job.

Finance Intern

May - August 2020 • Fort Worth, TX

What I liked

It was an incredible experience overall. I knew it was going to be difficult for the company to take on interns during this COVID crisis. That being said, they were super professional from start to finish and I felt heavily involved all the time. They did an amazing job utilizing skype and zoom to show me what they were working on, why it mattered to the company, and how to use specific applications to do so. I even made some lasting relationships along the way.

What I wish was different

I wasn't allowed to go into the office due to Covid. All Lockheed Martin employees were required to stay home and log in from your home. I wish I had the opportunity to go into the office because I feel like I could have made more connections and it would have been easier to learn.

Advice

You shouldn't be nervous about your internship. The most important thing I learned is that everyone you're working with, even your boss, doesn't expect you to learn everything in one day. It simply takes time and 3 months inst enough over the summer. Also, take on as many projects as you can. If executed correctly you can gain the trust of your coworkers and boss and hopefully will get a chance to come back or maybe even a full-time offer after school. Lastly, don't just sit there and collect a paycheck, try to learn as much as possible, even you don't end up working for that company you can still take the things you learned and apply them elsewhere.

Subcontract Management Intern

June - August 2020 • Fort Worth, TX

What I liked

Despite being an online internship, Lockheed was extremely prepared to provide me with as many opportunities as they could while I was working with them. They gave me countless opportunities to explore my own interests as well as follow some guided projects.

What I wish was different

No question the internship would have been enhanced if it was in person, but other than that I would not have changed anything.

Advice

One piece of advice would be to really work hard to network while on campus and over different platforms to get your name out there. The more people you know the more likely you are to find someone who can get you on board. In addition, don't let the networking stop there. It is still important to be relevant at your company once you start so you have support by your co-workers and you can learn more about other opportunities within the company a well.

Contracts

July 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

I Love the professional environment and how I actually felt like an asset to the team. Not just an ‘intern’

What I wish was different

If they would give me more opportunity to grow this into a career. It is very hard to network and make connections in this particular environment. Wish I could know if I would get a job offer after graduation. Very unknown

Advice

There is a lot of competition, it is very hard to land a full time position with them. Even being a CWEP can’t guarantee you a job after graduation.
