Undergraduate Lab Tech

October 2021 • Fort Collins, CO

What I liked

The work is really interesting and it is cool to work under graduate students to give me an idea of what I might be doing in the future. I also like that the hours are very flexible and that there are different tasks to do, you're not always doing the same thing.

What I wish was different

Advice

Ask lots of questions and always see if there is more you can be doing for the person you are working under. Impressions are really important to help network and set yourself up for a successful future.

Front Desk Receptionist

January 2021 • Fort Collins, CO

What I liked

This job had very flexible work hours given that it was on-campus during the summer, and the environment was quite relaxed. I was able to use my work time to do other projects of mine such as studying Spanish or researching future opportunities while getting paid at the same time. The work environment also allowed me quite a bit of creative freedom and independence.

What I wish was different

Even though I enjoyed the relaxed environment, it was at times too slow and I wish that I had more to show for all the time I spent in the office.

Advice

If you are looking for a summer job, consider where you want it to take you. My job didn't provide too much professional work experience, but I earned an income while studying so that was a benefit. If you want to build skills, consider well where you invest your work time.

Orientation leader

June - August 2021 • Fort Collins, CO

What I liked

Taught me how to work with others virtually. I got to learn more about the engineering success center which I thought was neat. I also learned about many resources that are offered to me.

What I wish was different

I think the structure was there for this position but due to it being online it was hard to determine how long the task would take. So at the end, it was hard to get hours due to us the team, finishing everything early.

Advice

It is a great job to work with others and get to know each other. The hours are very flexible which I appreciated. I was taking 2 summer classes while doing this position and I did not get overwhelmed.

Graphic Design Intern

May 2019 • Fort Collins, CO

What I liked

I love working in the Career Center as a graphic design intern because I am gaining valuable experience that I will take with me into my future! Learning about working in a client-based environment has been very important, and I am gaining experience using pertinent software for my career.

What I wish was different

Because of a quick turnaround on projects, there have been times where I wish I had more time to work on materials, especially during the school year. Time management is key!

Advice

I would advise any future interning students, especially in graphic design, to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about different software and programs - this internship has been a great opportunity for me to learn about the Adobe suite, and I feel incredibly confident on programs that I was not always completely familiar with. This has given me a head start in my classes!

What I liked

I liked the community the office had, as well as the different expertise that was easily available for job-hunting.
