What I liked

Working in a national park, it was 97% field work with about 3% of it being data entry.

What I wish was different

I wouldn't change any of it. It was a unique experience.

Advice

Be over-prepared. For me this meant packing extra layers for weather, anticipating needing extra equipment, and embracing the fact that anything could happen.

I loved the easy commute to campus. Teaching over the summer is also very fun because I worked with students who were dedicating all of their time to the class.

I wish there was a more efficient system allowing communication between students and instructors and tas.

I like having the freedom to fair in research. My PI thinks that learning how to fail is essential in research. I agree, with this freedom it helps me figure out why things works instead of just going though the motions.

I wish I started sooner! As a Biochem major, I wish I started my freshman year in the lab. You don't really need any lab classes to work in a research lab except just knowing how to make buffers and follow directions - it's very different from a lab class

If you think you want to do research, start ASAP. It's never too soon and it will look amazing on your resume.
