Grill Cook

June - August 2019 • Racine, WI

What I liked

The management and hours were very good. The management were friendly and cooperative with many free food events and team hyping with chants.

What I wish was different

I wish I bargained for a better wage after setting my wage and hearing the amount others started out.

Advice

Be prepared for the stress of food service work as it does get very intense in the kitchen during rush hours.

Server

August 2019 - June 2021 • San Antonio, TX

What I liked

The other servers I worked with are really energetic and know how to work as a team. We all supported each other and learned together. I would recommend this job to anyone looking to make money and have a good time. It definitely helped me get out of college debt free.

What I wish was different

I think that I learned too much at roadhouse to wish anything was different.

Advice

Just get out there and go do it. The communication skills and critical thinking skills I've developed working for this company has been invaluable. Even with no prior experience you can learn to be a great server in just a couple of months, and the pain is worth it when you see how much money you make by the end of the week.

Buss Boy

September - October 2021 • West Dade, FL

What I liked

The food was good, and the people were pretty nice. Also free drinks but yeah thats it.

What I wish was different

The pay, they would pay me 5 dollars an hour plus tips. No break, or free food. Its a steak house and the only free "food" they could offer you is salad and bread which is nothing. You a 30% discount on food you order which is alright if I am going to eat their with my family but seriously can't even bother to give me a free 8 oz with rice? Even if they wouldn't give me food I would at least appreciate a break or 2. I legitimately felt like a modern day indentured servant.

Advice

Don't settle for anything under 10 dollars an hour, especially when the work is bussing 2-4 tables at a time and breaking your back. Its not worth it.

Dining Room Host/Hostess

June - August 2021 • Waukesha, WI

What I liked

-job/restaurant experience -environment -understanding managers -other employees -flexible schedule

What I wish was different

I feel like they could’ve been faster responding if you messaged them through the scheduling app. I would have to wait a week for them to simply approve me picking up a shift or asking for time off.

Advice

Don’t get discouraged the first day. The first day is training and there’s a lot to learn and you’ll learn that dinner rushes are scary and stressful but just fo the best job you can and sooner or later you’ll get the hang of managing all of it.

Server

May 2019 • Gainesville, GA

What I liked

I like working with opposing view points. Even though I didn't necessarily see eye to eye with everyone (especially customers) I always felt loved and included, followed by success. I always do really well.

What I wish was different

I wish the management wasn't like a dictatorship. The managing partner is a "what I say goes" type of guy, and people that disagree with him do not last long.

Advice

I would say, don't let the fools you work with change your ability to do your job. Stay in your bubble, make your money, keep your mouth closed unless you have something helpful, and go home. It's important to know when you've lost, or when the battle is not worth the war.
