Stony Brook University

Psychologist Research Assistant

June - August 2023 • Stony Brook, NY

What I liked

I was involved in multiple studies that were NIH funded. We were given access to state-of-the-art equipment for our research. I was also met with hardworking and likeminded individuals like myself who worked through every obstacle we were met with. I gained even more experience using the EEG, and utilizing physiological equipment to assess heart rate.

Center Intern at LGBTQ* Services

August 2019 • Stony Brook, NY

What I liked

It's engaging. Being active with other members of the LGBTQ community and doing meaningful work to help spread awareness and educate means so much to me as an employee and a person.

What I wish was different

This is a job that requires a lot of time and dedication, and while it's meaningful work, it takes up a great chunk of time I wish I had to myself.

Advice

Learn to manage your time with efficiency. The work is inherently abusive, but the people here do genuinely care for you and want you to focus on your academics. Talk to your supervisors if you need help, and they'll be there.

Orientation Leader

May - August 2019 • Stony Brook, NY

What I liked

I liked the fast paced nature of the job and the responsibility that was given to OLs. If you like to take initiative and be a leader, I think you'd like this job. There are a lot of other aspects to the job outside of work also, like fun events and team building exercises. I think in this job you're able to gain a lot of workplace skills but also lean a lot about yourself as a person.
