The multidisciplinary team I was in, and the project! Living in Boston over the summer amongst the other interns was the best part, too.

Explorer Intern
May - August 2018 • Redmond, WA
What I liked
I really liked the company culture, and the opportunity to see how working in the actual software industry was like. I also really like the flexibility the company offered, and that I was able to ship an actual to production with my intern team that real customers use daily.
What I wish was different
I can't think of anything honestly, it was a very smooth experience.
Advice
Take as many of the opportunities you can that allow you to network with people in different parts of the company, and learn about the work they do, their background, how they got to where they are, etc..

Azure Cosmos DB Explorer Intern
May - August 2018 • Redmond, WA
What I liked
I liked my project, my manager, and my team. I also liked how almost everything about my project was designed from a customer perspective for a maximum business impact and job satisfaction. By the way, my project was to develop a reference solution to show Azure Cosmos DB customers how to leverage the Change Feed feature of Azure Cosmos DB.
What I wish was different
I did not designed and assign priorities to every part of my MVP from a customer standpoint. Therefore, some parts of my projects turned out to be not as important to the customers as I thought they would, which is kind of a waste of resources.
Advice
I would advise people to pay attention to knowing how their customers are and what those customers are looking for, and design everything else from there. I would also encourage everyone to make sure they love what they are working on, who they are working for, and who they are working with while looking for a job.

New Technologist Intern
June - August 2018 • Redmond, WA
What I liked
The plentiful resources available to interns and how willing people in senior positions were to get coffee with you and talk about their work. Lots of opportunities for career exploration and development. I liked my project too, which was mobile development.
What I wish was different
More opportunities to meet interns, something more product facing and less enterprise-y. Wanted a little more structure.
Advice
Make the most by reaching out to people and asking questions. Leverage the internal Microsoft connections, work hard.

PM Intern
May - August 2018 • Redmond, WA
What I liked
I liked getting to know how a large company like Microsoft works with many teams and I also liked the role of a PM in managing multiple parties (developers, cross-team communications, designers, etc).
What I wish was different
I wish that I had more guidance since PM-ing was new for me and more resources to work directly with developers. While my project was cool, I don't think it was prioritized highly with respect to full-time employees' projects and because of that I didn't feel that my work was as impactful.
