Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Redmond, WA

What I liked

Best tech internship experience in my opinion. My manager and team were phenomenal, I worked on real work the team was working on. I had all the support needed, and Microsoft genuinely cares more about you growing as an individual and your manager supports you through your own career growth even if it means being on a different team. That happened to me this past summer, and I will be returning to Microsoft in the Artificial Intelligence and Research organization, which was my goal. Microsoft pays the best in tech when when adjusting to zero taxes and cost of living in Seattle, and there is so much opportunity for growth. Also interns are spoiled in so many ways. Major highlights are the surprise private intern-only concert, and this year we got to see Sean Paul, Ella Mai, and Kyle. All interns in my division also got to keep $350 Surface Headphones for free.

What I wish was different

Nothing really, I had the best summer ever.

Advice

Microsoft is the best place for self-motivated people, who are do-ers. Your experience will be so much more rewarding and you will reach new heights if you want to see yourself grow and work for it. Take an active approach towards getting to where you want to be next.

Software Developer Intern

May - August 2019 • Bellevue, WA

What I liked

They gave me projects that I was interested in and my team was very friendly. The intern program at Microsoft is very nice and they spoil the interns.

What I wish was different

My manager assumed I was a master's student and gave me a lot of difficult work. I ended up working many 10 hour days.

Advice

If you're at a big company like Microsoft, take the time to network both within and outside of your organization. Full time employees are eager to share their experiences and you can learn a lot.

Software Engineer Intern

June - August 2019 • Redmond, WA

What I liked

I loved being in the Seattle area and being at Microsoft. The company really goes the extra mile to foster your learning and career development. There are always super interesting talks at Microsoft and the large company means there are definitely going to be at least a few people interested in similar things as you,

What I wish was different

I think the recruiting process is a bit messy. Figuring out teams and trying to switch teams can be quite difficult.

Advice

Meet new people, keep an open mind, and take everything as a learning experience.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Redmond, WA

What I liked

Growing my knowledge and surrounding myself with incredibly capable engineers to work with and ask for help.

What I wish was different

I wish I didn't have to come back for this final semester. Washington is way nicer than SF.

Advice

Just apply. Everyone is so lazy or scared of rejection that they'll end up applying to a few dozen places and talk about how hard it is or how much effort they put in. I put my job applications on a spreadsheet to keep track and to get my first internship I applied to 600 places. My experience is not unique. Just apply and keep applying and keep fixing your resume and keep applying.

Operations Program Manager Intern

July - September 2019 • Redmond, WA

What I liked

The abundance of support from colleagues and resources for personal development, improving skills and becoming a great team player. Interns are taken seriously and are given relevant, hands on projects. Work-life balance is great.

What I wish was different

Nothing really. I am very happy with my experience.

Advice

Do not let impostor's syndrome affect how you work or your work quality. When in doubt, always ask for clarity, direction and feedback as early as possible so you do not feel like you have to scramble things together at the end of your internship or your project. Also, a great advice my mentor gave me is to not overpromise and underachieve, instead, to under-promise and overachieve.

Product Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Redmond, WA

What I liked

I love the company, i loved the division I was in. Seattle was AMAZING in the summer. All of their internship benefits are incredibly generous. I had an amazing Manager that I learned so much from.

What I wish was different

The recruiting process for Microsoft is complex and usually takes a long time. Recruiters change frequently and it is hard to know who to reach out to. Your experience is directly tied to what team you get assigned to as well as who your manager is.

Advice

Highly recommend!! You are getting an amazing hands on career experience in a beautiful city while being paid. This is amazing. Both explorer and regular internships are a wonderful experience.
