Walmart Deli Associate

May 2017 • Meridian, ID

What I liked

This job has been really flexible with being a good summer job, Walmart has worked with my school schedule and has allowed me to work anytime I am home from school for any kind of break/holiday. I have just had to call them to let them know when I’d be home.

What I wish was different

There is a lot of problems with the management and how they treat and care for their employees.

Advice

Advice for myself at least is going forward and if I own my own practice then I’m going to definitely listen to and care for the employees more than Walmart does, because I know how it feels to not be heared and be over worked by businesses.

What I wish was different

For such a large corporation, Walmart was very unprofessional. Terrible at communicating and we were often short handed.

Fresh Cap 1 Accociate

May - August 2019 • Canyon, TX

What I liked

It took some time to get situated in my new schedule, but I liked the hours I worked. I enjoyed the daily routine set up. I also appreciated that I didn't work in the same department doing the same job every single day; one day I might be stocking produce, bakery or deli, the next day I might be processing the freight for produce, bakery or deli. It varied on what I was doing and for how long, so I enjoyed that.

What I wish was different

I wish that my roommate and I leased a different apartment over the summer. But on a more serious note, I wish that management could make up their mind about display assembly and product features. It was a bit irritating having to change a setup 3 - 4 times, and the management ending up choosing the original format it was before rearrangement.

Advice

Don't just pick the job that has the highest pay, pick a job that you enjoy so that every day you spend at worktime will go by fast and so you don't come back to work with a chip on your shoulder.

Stocker

June 2019 • Woodstock, GA

What I liked

I like how flexible the employer is with my school schedule, even now they allow me to work with the night crew so I can still get 32-38 hours a week in 3 days.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more workers at the store, as working there with the amount of people we have right now can lead to difficult situations.

Advice

For people looking for an oppurtunity with Walmart, I suggest they be prepared to learn many things on the job, as it is a very hands on experience. The people I work with are very kind and willing to teach you as long as your willing to learn; overall, it is a great experience and I am glad I have the oppurtunity to work with this employer right now.

I liked meeting my coworkers and learning a different perspective from what I have as a college student.

What I wish was different

I wasn’t a big fan of being a cashier. I would have been happier if I was a stocker.

Advice

Learn to smile and tolerate crazy people. When people are shopping they aren’t in the best mood, just try your best to understand the customers point of view.

Certified Pharmacy Technician

September 2015 • Plano, TX

What I liked

The opportunity to work with others in maintaining a steady ship in the world of retail pharmaceuticals.

What I wish was different

The increasingly prominent business aspect has become disheartening, emphasizing numbers and figures rather than genuine patient care.

Advice

Working at retail pharmacy has given me the ability to strengthen my communication skills and shown me the importance of collaboration. Patience is key, both with coworkers and customers.

Cart Pusher

May - August 2019 • Monroe, NY

What I liked

Being out in the sun and earning a living through simple exercise and hard work

What I wish was different

Better management. The people who ran the store could not handle a lot of problems due to its size. There were employees who would smoke multiple times a day outside of the cart doors and continued to do so even after me and several other people complained. I also wish they didn't move my schedule around during the last month. I had the same solid shift until one day they started giving me the late shifts I hated. They never hired anyone else willing to do this job during the summer, and it's clear that the reason why was due to the poor management and attitude

Advice

Even doing grunt work can be rewarding if you are moving around a lot and get a tan during the summer. But big corporations tend to be poorly managed so choose who you work for carefully

Stocker

June - August 2019 • Fremont, NE

What I liked

I did work that made a difference and helped me feel that what I was doing mattered. I was exhausted at the end of each day, and I saw this as proof that I had done an honest day's work.

What I wish was different

I would have preferred to keep my hours. My work schedule was pretty meek at the end of the summer.

Advice

Be prepared to give it your all, and don't quit. They need more people for this position.
