Sales Representative

June 2015 - August 2017 • Sandy, UT

What I liked

There were so many things I loved about working with Vector Marketing. In my opinion, this is the best opportunity for college students. I loved... - The flexible schedule. I was able to schedule my appointments around my classes. - The pay structure. I appreciated being paid weekly and for the effort I put in. - The culture. Some of the people I met at Vector became lifelong friends. - The travel. Once I advanced into management roles, I had the opportunity to travel the country (and the world) for conferences and on incentive trips. - The advancement opportunity. I advanced into management quickly and was able to run a Branch Office at the age of 19. I don't know of any other company that believes in young people as much as Vector Marketing does.

What I wish was different

I wish I had held myself more accountable. Because it's not an hourly position (and especially now that it's 100% remote), it can be difficult to stay motivated and hold yourself to your schedule, but I am glad that I had the opportunity to work through this and gain these soft skills at a young age. I now own my own business and because I learned how to manage my time and stick to my schedule, I'm much better off.

Advice

My biggest piece of advice to anyone thinking about interviewing with Vector Marketing is to give yourself a chance. I know sales has a bad rap and can be intimidating (especially if you don't have any prior sales experience like I did), but you will never regret the experience and knowledge you'll gain from working with Vector Marketing. Anyone has the chance to succeed if you work hard and be patient with yourself.

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to teach my representatives how to create their own schedule, interact with clients, and have confidence in themselves.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don’t do this position unless you will put 100% effort in!

Pilot sales manager

April - August 2020 • Novi, MI

What I liked

I loved learning about how to run a successful business, working with a staff, and getting to impact others by providing jobs and offering community to many people during a global pandemic.

What I wish was different

Despite being in a global pandemic, I wish I had gotten to physically spend time with the people I worked with more.

Advice

Always keep your options open because you never know where saying “yes” to something can take you.

Cutco Sales Representative

March 2020 • Providence, RI

What I liked

This is a remote position that allows you to work when you want to. It holds monthly and weekly meetings to help build your skills each week. Also, there is a commission package as well that provides a lot of incentive to sell.

What I wish was different

Even though its' remote I would of liked a little bit of inperson interaction. But with COVID-19 this hasn't been possible.

Advice

It is definitely a position to try even if you don't want to do sales. It helps develop a lot of professional skills like presenting, talking on the phone, selling yourself, and time management. It offers summer internships to run your own office and learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

What I wish was different

Field Sales Leader

May 2020 • Frederick, MD

What I liked

I love my manager and I created my own schedule for complete flexibility. Also with Covid this summer I was able to work all remotely and started immediately when school got out in May. I got promoted to Assistant Manager after 3 months and got 3 raises I'm on track to get my 4th one by the end of the year They do personal and professional growth conferences for FREE and tons of training so I got really good at communication and customer service skills

What I wish was different

I sold 27.8k and I really wanted to hit 30k but honestly, that was a personal goal that my manager encouraged me to go after but I never felt pressured by her. Also at the end of the summer when I had to leave for school and I didn't get it yet she was incredibly supportive. If I hit 30K I was eligible for a scholarship so maybe I could have done a few more small things to reach that goal.

Advice

Get out of your comfort zone and take this opportunity. SO many young people hate the idea of sales but having 2 summers in the profession (last year I sold used cars) it is the best way to develop yourself professionally. Vector specifically works with college students to grow them and they invest so much in us as people and the team atmosphere of a little competition a lot of encouragement is honestly the PERFECT balance and such a great environment for growth

Assistant Manager

June 2018 • North Andover, MA

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

The experience is valuable but remote management has an entirely different list of challenges and obstacles to overcome. That being said, the company was thorough in its training and preparation and I would recommend pursuing work with this company only if you are highly independently motivated as much of the wages earned are not passive but come about from work done as a sales representative. It IS NOT a clock in clock out and get paid job.

Branch Manager

April - August 2020 • Johnstown, PA

What I liked

I loved the experience of running my own business. I also loved having the opportunity to interact and talk with a large variety of people in my home-town. I was able to share my experience and help others succeed at high level in my area.

What I wish was different

Well, this is a little out of my control, but I wish I would have been able to interview, train, and meet with my teammates in person instead of virtually. Even though my remote office was successful, I really would have liked to have experienced it in person.

Advice

Having confidence in yourself is important. If you are confident in yourself, then you can succeed at a high level and "do the impossible"!

Sales

July - August 2020 • Houghton, MI

What I liked

I created my own schedule and didn't need to be in any certain place at any particular time. I just had to have wifi.

What I wish was different

I didn't like the weekly meetings we had to have as a team. To me, they were unproductive and long.

Advice

If you like the job, you'll do great and learn a lot of great skills. They have a lot of opportunities to help you grow, and a lot of incentives to do well in your position! It wasn't for me personally because I learned that sales wasn't for me.

Marketing and Sales Professional

June 2012 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

This has been the single most rewarding experience of my life -- and it was completely by accident. I was just looking for a summer job after high school, and ended up landing within a company that fostered personal growth and development and allowed me to realize a potential I never knew existed. I was able to craft my own schedule weekly around my other priorities, always seek help and guidance whenever I was confronted with a problem I didn't know how to solve, was lovingly pushed to step outside my comfort zone, and was able to make an insane income as a full-time college student at a rigorous university. This job allowed me to develop a network of over 3,000 people from all over the U.S. and has put me in a position of choice for whatever career I want upon graduation. Instead of companies interviewing me, I now interview companies; that leverage would have never been possible without working here.

What I wish was different

I wish that there wasn't such a negative online stigma surrounding the company. They are undeserving of it, and have cultivated many of the nation's top C-Level executives, entrepreneurs, salesmen and saleswomen, and business-people.

Advice

Take this job right now. Don't give up when it gets a little uncomfortable or hard. This job is the epitome of "you get what you put in." Anyone who has negative reviews on this page is the exact type of person who gives less than 100% and then blames the system/company instead of taking personal responsibility. As a high school graduate with no work experience, connections, communication or interpersonal skills, and low confidence, I was able to maximize this opportunity to become a sought-after candidate across many industries from finance to real estate to tech and beyond. I was able to leverage my experiences here to transfer from a community college into a top 5 university in the world. I was able to make enough money to graduate from Columbia debt-free with enough to start my adult life off on the right foot. And I was able to build relationships and friendships that will last a lifetime. If you pass up this opportunity, you are doing yourself a disservice.

What I liked

Made my own hours Independent contractor lots of $$$

What I wish was different

I wish the office was a little nicer, the work environment was great but the office itself was over used and needed an upgrade.

Advice

Teaches you what its like to be your own boss. One piece of advice is to never get down on yourself, one bad day doesn't define who you are. Come back stronger. If you want to be the best you have to keep up with the best. No goal is out of reach. Anyone can be successful as long as your willing to put the work in.

Sales Professional

July 2014 • Crofton, MD

What I liked

The culture of personal & professional development. The income opportunity beat what I could at any other part time job. The resume experience I gained through advancement opportunities

What I wish was different

Not much, there were definitely challenges you face with this job but it was because of those challenges that helped taught me how to persevere through them and grow as a person.

Advice

You have to be open to learning & open-minded. If not you won’t get better or make more money at the job. It takes time to improve your skill set, for some people the job is easier to learn & get better at than others.
