I would suggest that you take every opportunity given to you in a corporate environment. 3 months goes by fast!

What I liked
The ability to network with so many employees in different lines of business across the whole footprint. I met hundreds of people in the branches across D.C. and VA and I also met the senior leadership such as the CEO and CMO that work out of the headquarters in Pittsburg, PA.
What I wish was different
I wish that there were more structured tasks that we could complete when we completed the things we were told to do earlier in the day.

Ask for more work!

Corporate Banking Summer Analyst

What I liked
I liked how open everyone was. I was able to meet with people from almost every division from marketing to syndications to foreign exchanges and they were all happy to meet with an intern to give advice and talk about their experiences within the industry. They were very laid back compared to other banks.
What I wish was different
I wish I was able to work on more deals and do more analytical work. A lot of time on the job was spent working on prospecting rather than on the more analytical side which was very frustrating given that my role was supposed to be a more analytical one. At the firm, there will be a lot of down time so a majority of it was spent reading the WSJ and such.
Advice
I would definitely suggest future interns to be very open minded with their experiences. Halfway through my experience I realized I wanted to explore different aspects of finance such as investment management and investment banking rather than staying with corporate banking. I would definitely suggest to be excited about doing the little grunt work because it definitely shows and your managers will be way more likely to bring you to client meetings and work on more complex things. Be very open and willing to learn and your team will be more than helpful to teach you.

Very development and training focused. PNC emphasizes the fact that young professionals are the future and they put time and dedication into developing potential. They also had the interns consistently in front of senior management. I presented my final project for three high level executives, one being the CEO of Capital Markets. They really set you up to come back full time after graduation.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had a way to study or prepare for this internship as it is very rigorous.
Advice
Apply to companies and in industries that you aren't necessarily comfortable in! I never thought I would go into banking.

What I liked
I was working on real projects that actually had an impact on the various back-end processes of the bank. All the other interns were extremely nice and PNC held a variety of events for the interns to get to know each other better (for ex- pirates game and happy hour).
What I wish was different
I wish that I was aware that I would not be working with other interns/there were no other interns on my immediate team. There also was no final project for operations interns which was disappointing, being that all the other interns had final projects. In addition, PNC was restructuring their operations department so many things within the program were extremely disorganized.
Advice
Do not be afraid to ask questions and ask for help when something is not clear.
Involved in real work from the beginning (worked with the DCM team on over 10 live deals through the summer, went to bank meetings as "analyst"), earned trust to develop my own pitch books for potential or ongoing deals. Cumulative model project and presentation aided my learning of the loan markets and really cultivated my entire experience.
What I wish was different
I wish Villanova would offer more in terms of teaching students about the loan market as I came in knowing next to nothing.
Advice
Enter this internship with an open mind to learn and an acceptance that you wont know everything from the get go. Become a sponge and ask many questions, the Syndications team is more than willing to help.

What I wish was different
I wish there had been less computer work and more team problem solving. The job was great but lacked a personal communication aspect that I wish it would’ve had.
Advice
I would say this position isn’t the best for Finance majors since it is more heavily operations based rather than investments / finance related. Regardless, it was a great opportunity and I’d recommend PNC as a place of employment to anyone in CBA.

What I liked
Great on the job experience. They take you into the banks and you get first hand experience with customers in the business banking role. They also have a great general atmosphere, from day one the employees of PNC make you feel welcome.
What I wish was different
The overall process of finding out your exact market and branch location is a pretty lengthy period, which made finding housing for the summer a little hard.
Advice
Don’t worry about not knowing what you want to do in PNC. They take the time to give you opportunities to learn about all the different aspects of the company and where you feel like you belong.

Please look at the corporate culture to see if you are okay with their culture. If you are a great sales person, this is the job for you. The position requires a lot of competition between banks so this is a challenge th bank faces.

It was kind of a crash course for me in keeping up with the news and understanding how and why the market moves when it does. If I could go back I would start reading WSJ or some other news source a few months in advance to better understand trends

Communication between the Risk HR people and our managers wasn't the best - so sometimes our managers were not up to date on what HR would tell us.

Ask for more - it is very awkward at first, but if you're bored, ask to help with other projects.

What I liked
It was a very hands-on experience. Team members were authentic and constructive with feedback. The work was real and clearly had an impact on the success of my team. Extensive opportunities to network.
What I wish was different
If I had the opportunity to work on a few more live deals, that would have been fantastic. The work I completed was more related to upcoming deals meaning credit analysis and approval constructions for upcoming deals. I worked on one deal with a relationship manager where we were discussing strategy for a meeting and I wish I had a little bit more of that.
Advice
Do not simply go through the motions i.e. take a task, complete it, just to check the box per say. Truly sit down with team members to understand the strategy behind each deal. It shows that you are thinking intellectually and that you care about the big picture.
