Medtronic

R&D Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Santa Rosa, CA

What I liked

Loved the innovative enviornment Medtronic offered. There was a great balance of very experienced engineers and young engineers.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more college intern engineers in the program. Most interns were with a high school program.

Advice

Look into technicians feedback early on in the design process. The techs have many years of experience and will be able to give feedback on manufacturability or even help create new ideas with you.

What I wish was different

I wish the pay would have been slightly higher.

Operations Excellence Intern

May - August 2019 • Northridge, CA

What I liked

The work culture at Medtronic exceeded my expectations. As an intern, you are given very important projects and are exposed to opportunities where you can make a long lasting impact with your time at the company. The managers and everyone at the site were extremely friendly and helpful and resources were easily accessible.

What I wish was different

I wish that the Human Resources department would have been more helpful with granting me my desired return offer. The process for return offers felt like it was to my own personal disadvantage and I would've liked to have my location preferences heard.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions or to be curious about another department. Make the most out of your internship and find out the most you can about your company and about the business unit you are working in. Network! Make as many connections as you can.

Computer Science Engineering Intern

May - August 2017 • New Haven, CT

What I liked

Being exposed to medical robotics, the pace of the project, the culture of the team, and atmosphere in which a good question asked by anyone wouldn't be forgetten until an answer was found

What I wish was different

I wish early my tasks had been more challenging, and that I spent less time waiting for work.

Advice

Seek out a double block internship/co-op. The ramp-up in workload is almost universal no matter where you work, so having more time at the peak of the workload will lead to a better experience.
