Intermountain Health

Surgery Aide

May - September 2019 • Grand Junction, CO

What I liked

I loved being able to help an awesome community of people and feel like I am really making a difference as a volunteer in an atmosphere that I love! It was very rewarding and it allowed me to obtain my current job!

What I wish was different

Nothing actually! The experience was professional and well rounded, the volunteers receive just as much attention as a regular employee would and that was very helpful!

Advice

Just go in with the utmost respect for the people around you. Most of the people around you have been on a full shift already, and are working hard to help ensure quality care to the patients in your department. To communicate and serve is the best way to make the most of your volunteering time!

Software Engineer Intern

May - August 2020 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I loved the experience. I worked with some of the greatest minds in Utah and some of the best software too.

What I wish was different

There needed to be more communication between me and leadership. It is very hard to talk to anyone there, and even more difficult to get in. However, if you have the skills they are looking for, they will not hesitate to hire you.

Advice

Show up on time. Interview well. Work hard. Intermountain accepts people who have real goals and know where they are headed. If you can provide quality software engineering skills, they can provide you with a fantastic and fulfilling job with many benefits.

Information Systems Apprentice

May 2022 • West Valley City, UT

What I liked

My team has been so fun to work on, they have great senses of humor, are always willing to help out, and have taught me so much. And they extended my internship from just summer to the end of the year which is such a great career opportunity.

What I wish was different

While the remote flexibility of the internship was awesome, the company does turn their cameras off for every meeting which makes it sometimes hard to connect.

Advice

I would say don't be afraid to apply! I did not think I was qualified at all but they gave me a shot and I feel like I have fit in well.

November 2019 - March 2020 • Ogden, UT

I loved the organization level with my internship. The director, Jake Holt, was very helpful and allowed me to start early. It was good that we started early because the pandemic hit right after I ended my internship.

Endoscopy lab tech

November 2017 - September 2018 • Logan, UT

What I liked

The company treats me very well and gives me opportunities to continue learning. Not only that but they work to create a comfortable and safe environment. The location of the hospital is great for where I live and go to school. The physicians are very approachable and relatable, and our management is outstanding! My manager works with schedules no matter your responsibilities. Even though each person in the hospital is (in a way) replaceable, they make you feel irreplaceable, and they invest in you in the same way. They provide retirement and isnsurance benefits as well and help you plan for the future. There is great job security for jobs offered at the hospital.

What I wish was different

I can’t think of anything specific.

Advice

I would recommend a job at intermountain healthcare!

What I liked

The hours are flexible for all school schedules. I was able to work in a highly lucrative industry, work with wonderful people, and gain tremendous experience.

What I wish was different

I had the opportunity to work 40 hours per week from the beginning of the position. I wish I would have utilized that aspect much earlier.

Advice

If you are interested in a proactive work environment, this is not a position for you.

Research Intern

August 2018 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I am still working here, but I love it so far. I really appreciate that I actually get to dive into some awesome research projects of my interest!

What I wish was different

I honestly don't dislike anything thus far, and although the actual "intern" duties I do can seem trivial, I actually enjoy knowing that I am helping to make other caregivers' experience more positive when working with the Institute for Healthcare Delivery.

Advice

Don't let people tell you that you can't find a paid internship, ESPECIALLY in Public Health. Because you CAN! I worked really hard though. I was looking for jobs for over an hour, every day, for over 7 months. It takes a lot of work to get internships like that in Utah, because: 1) it is so saturated, and 2) it is very competitive. And let's be honest, paid internships are a DREAM.
