Evening Custodian

August - October 2019 • Rexburg, ID

What I liked

Varied, yet consistent, work. I enjoyed cleaning carpet, and I liked that I was able to innovate some practices to make the work easier. I liked how work started with prayer. I most appreciated that we were primarily expected to do as good of a job as we could, even if it would take extra time, so that we could keep the focus of giving our best working for the Lord.

What I wish was different

I wished that I the policy would allow to work with headphones instead of an out-loud speaker so that I would not have had to worry about bothering other people with whatever I preferred to listen to.

Advice

Focus on doing the job right the first time, each time. Half jobs require more work and wasted time to correct.

College Teaching Assistant

April 2019 • Rexburg, ID

What I liked

I loved being able to teach other students physiology. My experience was different then other TA’s on campus because the teacher didn’t actually teach the class. Myself and one other TA taught the entire class from beginning to end. This was a perfect opportunity for me to learn if I wanted to go into academic health in the future.

What I wish was different

I wish the class would have had a curriculum to start with. The other TA and I created the class from scratch as it was a new class being introduced into BYUI. It would have been nice to have a foundation from the start but it worked out fine in the end!

Advice

That teaching other people what you think you know will really shed light to how much you actually know. I was humbled many times throughout. I advice everyone to teach as a form of learning it really is the most effective way to learn.
