Working with kids, diverse and fun environment, friendly staff, plenty to do, opportunities to organize creative activities/events.
What I wish was different
More structure and consistency for the volunteers and more leadership opportunities. Supervisors could have taken more of a mentorship role and provided advice to volunteers as part of the program.
Advice
Must be a patient, open-minded, problem solver. Must also be creative, engaging with the kids, a team player, take initiative and responsible.

I enjoyed learning conflict resolution with children and encouraging members to participate in social, academic, and physical enrichment and program activities Learned and implemented conflict resolution and youth development strategies.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had more training on how to address conflicts that came up between students and being able to execute and learn how to help the students in that aspect.
Advice
Be able to communicate enthusiastically and come to work excited every day to work with the kids. Your emotions and attitude will have a huge impact on the relationship you form with students.

I worked with the boys and girls club through the Menomonie area school district. I loved getting to know the kids in the program, putting together programs that would engage their social, emotional, physical, and academic learning.
What I wish was different
I wished that I could've gotten to put in more time to work with the staff and kids.

It was a great learning experience that challenged me to find ways to make programs developmentally appropriate and inclusive for all the age groups.
