Advice

I would say go in having creative new ideas about what you want to do for the summer, arts and crafts, games, sports, etc. Kids get bored and when they are bored is when they start to misbehave.

Youth development professional

May 2018 • Spokane, WA

What I liked

Helping kids from a low income community has been so rewarding and challenging. As a future educator, the experience was extremely valuable and I feel that many kids benefited from me being there.

What I wish was different

The boys and girls club is extremely low on financial resources, so sometimes there weren’t enough staff and we didn’t always have the resources to do fun activities with the kids.

Advice

I would be prepared to give a lot of your energy to this job if you do it over the summer, but the school year positions are not tiring at all. That being said, the summer was tiring but it was personally worth it for me.
