What I liked

I loved the support system I received throughout the internship, and the mentoring was spectacular. I never felt out of place, or lost in my job, despite jumping into a brand new field I had never been in before. I was provided judgment-free guidance at a moment's notice, and especially through my biggest hurdles. There is no such thing as failure if you don't quit, and that mindset rippled through the whole team I was working with. Great coaching.

What I wish was different

I wish I'd known getting started in the position that I would need some startup materials, which wasn't clear to me when I applied. I wouldn't have decided against applying, though. Had I known at the beginning I think I would have been much more prepared and in the long run, a bit more successful going into the summer season.

Advice

Stay motivated in any way you can, and remember your ultimate goal. Remember why you started, and keep the big picture at your fingertips. Imagine yourself succeeding, and you will. Your success rides on your own internal drive, so this is a perfect internship for those truly interested in the entrepreneurial lifestyle/experience.

Senior Executive

October 2017 • Boston, MA

What I liked

This internship is for the most motivated and success driven college students who are seeking to separate themselves from their peer groups and take the first big step to building the strongest resume possible at their peer group. After two years with this company I can confidently say that I have the most incredible stories that I can bring with me wherever I go, and the intangible experiences that I earned from running over $300,000 of business over two years. I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything. The financial freedom you also attain from this internship is more than any other person at the age group, and is helping me completely pay for college.

What I wish was different

Nothing

Advice

Be prepared to work harder than you've ever worked

What I liked

-Best experience that college student can get if they plan on running their own business in the future. This teaches you the ins and outs of marketing, sales, customer relations, managing revenue and employees, the list goes on and on.

What I wish was different

I wish I had listened to my executive more than I did. The advice your mentor gives you will lead you to success if you follow it. During some parts of the internship I got cocky and I made a few mistakes in the process. Recovering, bouncing back and conquering the challenges that arised from those mistakes are what gave me the rewarding and life changing experience from this internship. Being an entrepreneur isn't about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and still keep going.

Advice

Know your why, or your reason for running a business.

What I liked

You will learn more about yourself in a summer with YEAA than you will anywhere else.. Are you a quitter? Do you have good time management skills? Are you able to give direction to a group of individuals and properly manage them? You will learn the answer to these questions and more. I genuinely believe you are making a mistake by not seizing this opportunity and making the most out of it. This internship is a foundation to the rest of your career in business and you will gain so much hands on experience that you wouldn't get from any other internship being offered.

What I wish was different

Advice

Work hard until the end. It's so easy to throw in the towel early and give up or quit. You won't get the most out of this internship unless you put in the most.

What I liked

Student Painters has allowed me to fulfill a lifelong dream of mine, to run a successful business. I have grown more as an individual, entrepreneur, leader and student more than ever before in my life. Student Painters has no ceiling on how much you can succeed and how much profit you can make. In my case running an $40,000 business while profiting more than $5,000 my sophomore summer. I was provided with a solid business model platform, told what I needed to do to succeed and the rest figured itself out. I’m not trying to sugar coat it, this was definitely the hardest challenge I have yet to face, but the reward of my hard work paid for itself. Anyone that is looking for an opportunity that truly forces you to grow professionally would be missing a great opportunity by passing it up. Being able to compete and perform on the same level as fellow college students is a thrilling and life altering experience. Without Student Painters I would have no where near the business experience and knowledge I have today. This is an opportunity that not many people get to say they went through. I feel I have a great advantage over my peers after successfully completing my summer with Student Painters.

What I liked

Student Painters a very unique opportunity for college students to get hands on experience with business. No other internship will give you the responsibility and freedom that Student Painters gives you. Spending a summer with Student Painters you will learn just how much effort, determination, and resilience goes into running a business and you learn numerous invaluable soft skills. My experience at Student Painters gives me the confidence to walk into any job interview knowing that if I could run my own business as a college freshman, I could definitely handle whatever job I’m interviewing for. I strongly believe that anyone can do this internship if they are willing to put in the effort to make it happen. I recommend this internship to anyone interested in business who has an ambitious spirit and an undying work ethic to make your vision come true.

What I wish was different

I wish that more time was spent training us on the actual painting involved in the business.

Advice

This internship is only for people who are willing to put a lot of time in to it. You have to be willing to give up most of your free time. If you choose to do the internship, I would recommend trying to find a good work-life balance and practicing stress reduction techniques.
