Wright State University On-Campus Student Employment

Student Development Officer

September 2022 • Dayton, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to connect with alumni and hear their stories about their time at the university. It was fulfilling to play a part in securing financial support for the university's initiatives and programs. Building relationships with alumni and seeing their dedication to giving back to the institution was a rewarding aspect of the job.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more resources and training available to improve my fundraising and donor engagement skills. It would have been helpful if there were better data management tools and systems to track and analyze alumni interactions. I also wished for more collaboration between departments to effectively steward donors and ensure their contributions were put to good use.

Advice

My advice to someone in a fundraising role like this would be to build genuine relationships with alumni. Take the time to understand their interests and motivations for giving. Invest in professional development related to fundraising techniques and donor engagement strategies. Collaborate with colleagues and other university departments to ensure a seamless and donor-centered experience.
