Information Security Architect Intern

June - August 2021 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

Though remote, the working environment was incredible. The team I worked on was very friendly and very willing to answer any and all questions. Aside from the work, the university program team kept all the interns engaged in learning new valuable topics.

What I wish was different

I wish I has been able to go to the office, but given the global situation it's understandable that everyone wasn't able to. Also, it seems that most of the people in the non-tech side of things had little to do. I on the other hand was a bit overwhelmed juggling work-related things and the university program curriculum.

Advice

Be prepared to learn as much as you can. Take advantage of the resources you are given and don't be afraid to reach out to other interns and make new professional connections.

Wealth & Investment Management Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Program was heavily structured around networking with sessions from Wells Fargo leaders across different lines of business. Final intern project presented to a board including LOB leaders, hiring managers and recruiters. My boss was fantastic and I loved working with everyone on my desk.

What I wish was different

I had a positive experience with this but the day to day work is assigned by your hiring manager and I heard from some other interns that they did not have much to do because their managers were fairly hands off during the summer. I was constantly busy so I did not have this issue.

Advice

This program provides a solid basis for the PWM and PB industries and grants access to many high level people within WF. Highly recommend learning about the WIM analyst program during the summer before full-time re-recruitment as WF does not offer return offers immediately for the WIM program, they have a re-recruitment schedule starting in September.

I liked that I was doing real work and also had the opportunity to learn so much valuable information that will help me in my future career.

Financial Analyst

June - August 2020 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

During Covid, the internship moved to virtual which allowed all of the MMB (Middle Market Banking) interns to group together for the speaker series that WF had set up. I got a chance to meet a lot of other students from all around the country and listen/speak to C-suite executives to include Charles Scharf.

What I wish was different

Understandably, we weren't allowed to go into the office during our internship due to Covid so I missed out on meeting my supervisor and other analyst face to face.

Advice

Work hard, have at least 5-10 questions prepared before every speaker event, and network as much as possible.

Systems Support Analyst

January - July 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I liked gaining the experience of learning about a job field in Information Technology and being able to work with a team of people who specialize in database systems.

What I wish was different

The work or lack thereof I should say. The quality of the work was good but the frequency of obtaining work was not always given. I would have liked to receive more tasks and would have liked to have done a lot more.

Advice

Well for me, it made me realize that IT wasn’t really for me. I found no interest in it and working with systems wasn’t something I wanted to do as my career. So I guess my piece of advice would be to make sure that you know what you really want and what career choice you want to pursue.

Enterprise risk development intern

July - August 2020 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

Wells Fargo had me working on real projects with high-level executives. I also had the opportunity to work with fellow interns on an intern project. This gave me the opportunity to network with people who had a wide range of experiences, along with people my age who were just coming out of the gate. Everyone was extremely friendly and outgoing, allowing me to gain a ton of tips and knowledge about the field I am now pursuing.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was actually in-person. It was shortened to a month due to Covid (originally it would’ve been three months at the Wells Fargo center in Charlotte), and it was set up online. While I understand it had to be virtual because of the circumstances, I still wish I had that in-person experience so that I could go grab lunch with team members or interview people face to face. It’s easier for me to talk to people when I can see them instead of speaking through a phone or through a zoom call.

Advice

My one piece of advice would be to never stop asking questions. The idea of learning should never be intimidating to you, especially when it involves your future. It gets easier and easier to talk to people when you make it clear to them that you’re invested and genuinely curious about having the questions you ask answered.

Enterprise Risk Intern

June - August 2020 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I enjoyed how I was working on projects that I would have never learned in school.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to explore more branches in the bank.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is to always get the most out of the experience. For example, I was in the enterprise department but I made sure to reach out to lawyers who worked for Wells Fargo because I know that I wish to attend law school in the future. So networking with others is important because people want to help.

Technology intern

July - August 2020 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

The inclusion of feeling like I was not just an intern but a real team member. Getting to work on a real project that will be used.

What I wish was different

Due to coronavirus I worked remote. I think working in person could have provided better communication at times.

Advice

Don't stress! Your coworkers are there to help you learn and grow.
