Wealth and Investment Management Operations Intern

June - August 2023 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I enjoyed the experience to work for a big company, and it was my first career-related job, so it was very different than my usual part time jobs or summer jobs. The first week of the internship they flew us all to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and we got to network and meet other interns from all over the US who would be interning in different locations.

What I wish was different

I wish I had started working more at the beginning of the internship, as I felt like I was shadowing more the first half and then actually doing work the second half and I could have been utilized more by my team.

Advice

Do not try to imagine what it will be like before you start the internship because it will probably be very different than you imagined, so go in with an open mind and no expectations. No matter whether you like the work or not, you will learn and at least get to experience working a corporate job.

Software Engineer

July - August 2023 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

I liked the competitive compensation. On top of the hourly pay they gave us money to help relocate and pay for housing. They also gave us a ton of Wells Fargo loot, most of which was pretty nice. I enjoyed the paid trip to San Francisco for the week induction training. When I eventually got work to do I really enjoyed it. The early careers program coordinators are AWESOME.

What I wish was different

The engineers that were supposed to directly manage and help us were not allocated extra time to do so. This made it hard to get what was needed in order to work on or set up projects. Got stuck doing trainings for roughly 4 out of the 10 weeks because it took so long to get everything I needed to do my project. The communication between my manager and those who directly mentored me was poor and caused issues.

Advice

Don’t wait for people to take care of things for you. Find out who has what you need or who can help you and ask/email them directly.

Information Security Architect Intern

June - August 2021 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

Though remote, the working environment was incredible. The team I worked on was very friendly and very willing to answer any and all questions. Aside from the work, the university program team kept all the interns engaged in learning new valuable topics.

What I wish was different

I wish I has been able to go to the office, but given the global situation it's understandable that everyone wasn't able to. Also, it seems that most of the people in the non-tech side of things had little to do. I on the other hand was a bit overwhelmed juggling work-related things and the university program curriculum.

Advice

Be prepared to learn as much as you can. Take advantage of the resources you are given and don't be afraid to reach out to other interns and make new professional connections.

Wealth & Investment Management Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Program was heavily structured around networking with sessions from Wells Fargo leaders across different lines of business. Final intern project presented to a board including LOB leaders, hiring managers and recruiters. My boss was fantastic and I loved working with everyone on my desk.

What I wish was different

I had a positive experience with this but the day to day work is assigned by your hiring manager and I heard from some other interns that they did not have much to do because their managers were fairly hands off during the summer. I was constantly busy so I did not have this issue.

Advice

This program provides a solid basis for the PWM and PB industries and grants access to many high level people within WF. Highly recommend learning about the WIM analyst program during the summer before full-time re-recruitment as WF does not offer return offers immediately for the WIM program, they have a re-recruitment schedule starting in September.

What I wish was different
