Network Engineer

May - August 2020 • Plant City, FL

What I liked

My favorite part of this experience was how fast Verizon was able to transition from a physical environment into a remote one. While being remote, they made sure to accommodate us interns the best way they can. Also, I enjoyed being a leader in a competition where we had to design an online platform that will give employees a space to connect and build relationships with their coworkers while working remotely. I liked this because even though our team had to collaborate online, it was fun being able to network with other interns and hear about their cultures.

What I wish was different

Even though Verizon did an amazing job transitioning my internship into an online platform, I wish I had a social distanced internship in person. Having this would allow me to learn more about why I'm completing a certain project and how it will benefit our customers. Also, I'm a very hands-on person so having the opportunity to work with machines physically can help me gain more knowledge in my field, compared to doing so online.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give is to join two types of organizations on campus. One for your major, and one for your interests. You should join an organization in your field because it can provide you access to resources you may not usually find that can win you internships and full-time opportunities. Joining this type of organization can also give you more insight into the applications of your major. You should also join an organization for your interests because it allows you to sometimes "escape" from the stress college can give you. When I joined a club about something I was interested in, I met many friends that I would consider my family. Hanging out with them helps me get away from the stress College gives me and allows me to have a clear, uncluttered mind.

Supply Chain Intern

June - August 2020 • Basking Ridge, NJ

What I liked

Everyone was so friendly and willing to help. I was tasked to learn a whole new software and present progress and results by the end.

What I wish was different

Fewer all-intern programs. There was too much in attempt to compensate for the virtual internship, but it ended up taking away from my actual work time. Also, the Intern Group Project was difficult to coordinate because we didn't really know each other and took some time to figure out how to work together

Advice

You learn so much more than your discipline and you learn to be a better contributor and leader.

What I wish was different

Something common amongst all other interns is wishing the experience was in-person rather than remote.

Corporate Sales Trainer

June - August 2019 • Cherry Hill, NJ

What I liked

I was quickly promoted from a Sales rep to a Corporate Sales Trainer. I was basically an intern who trained other interns and new hires on how to sell Verizon to B2B prospects.

What I wish was different

I wish that it didn’t involve a lot of driving because it took a toll on my car. The tolls were also $25 a week because I had to cross the Ben Frank bridge to get to cherry hill every day.

Advice

Getting a sales job will have you learn a lot of essential life hacks. It strengthens your communication skills, your confidence, and even how you market yourself. It teaches you to ALWAYS keep and maintain a positive attitude. Because that’s how winners continue to win. It’s all about confidence and positive energy.

Finance Operations Intern

June - August 2019 • Lake Mary, FL

What I liked

I enjoyed finally having hands on experience within the field of finance. I was very intrigued at how I was able to fix a problem that a Fortune 19 company was facing. The people were amazing at Verizon, full of a diverse workforce where I was never afraid about approaching someone if I had a question. The employees were helpful throughout my entire experience and really made me appreciate the company.

What I wish was different

I wish that I could have had more autonomy with my project. My manager managed 5 different teams and my partner and I were unable to reach out to other departments without his help, which resulted in delays with our project.

Advice

Stay up to date with news about the company. As your internship in this position will most likely be about improving an operation about the company it's very important to be aware of how your recommendation will align with the company's goals.
