Human Resource Inten
May 2019 • Milwaukee, WI
What I liked
My coworkers are a joy to work with. It's such a diverse group of people, so I don't feel like an outcast. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help me when I have questions. The culture here is amazing. It makes me comfortable to come into the office every day to work. As an intern, they try their best to teach me many roles as an HR employee, so my experience was super beneficial for someone who didn't have any experience in my field.
What I wish was different
I wish I was able to be more involved in big projects because those experiences would have benefitted me for the future and probably prepare me for my upcoming full-time position. However, they are going to train me, and I have built a few relationships here, so it won't be hard for me to ask any questions.
Advice
You should keep an open-mind when working here because the office is quite small, so people have many errands they need to fulfill as well. They can't always give you work when they need to work themselves. However, this is also a plus because as a student, I was able to do my homework and study at my desk, so it's awesome to not have to work 8-hours straight.

Undergraduate Researcher
May - September 2018 • Milwaukee, WI
What I liked
I enjoyed being able to work closely with an experienced professor who was able to teach and guide me in a one -on-one role. I learned a lot about how to conduct myself in the field and what to look for to help my research in the lab.
What I wish was different
Maybe a bit more time in the field, but the outcrop was not close to where I lived or where my research sponsor lived.
Advice
Utilize the resources at hand, that is what they are there for. A professor would not agree to sponsor you for undergraduate research if they did not believe in your abilities and want to help you hone your skills.

Undergraduate Research Assistant
May 2018 • Milwaukee, WI
What I liked
I enjoyed the motivation for deeper understanding of the concepts and effects within the research theory and modeling. I took initiative to read old publications and search through files to learn the history of the project and team. This gave me a much better and more detailed understanding of the work and goals for the research. And, I felt more confident and able to contribute more valuable input for design changes and testing ideas.
What I wish was different
I wish there was a greater sense of urgency and better operational processes. Most necessary actions before testing and next steps were halted by tasks assigned to the busier graduate students. I was a self-starter type, but there was little I could do when items had to and only could be completed by those above me.
Advice
Look into the research team and ask those of similar level what you responsibilities and activities you may perform. Learning before you begin will aid in your expectations and help you learn quicker in short time frames.

Help Desk Technician
July 2019 • Milwaukee, WI
What I liked
Everyone is nice and very helpful to each other. I like being able to help people solve their problems because I know how frustrating some issues can be.
What I wish was different
There is a lot of information to remember when you are starting. I wish I had more time to learn everything because I had to ask a lot of questions when I started. Everyone is open to helping and will answer any questions, but it can feel annoying having to ask for help repeatedly.
Advice
This is an excellent place if you are trying to build experience related to IT and do not have much experience elsewhere.
