It gave me hands on experience with laboratory work. I’ve learned how to maintain a moisture trap using silica gel, prep samples for isotopic analysis, neutralize acids for disposal, extract bone collagen, etc. I feel like I’ve gained a lot of valuable experiences from this job that are applicable to a future career in Geology.
What I wish was different
Sometimes the work can be monotonous and tedious, but that’s to be expected. The only thing I’d want to be different is to have something new to do everyday.
Advice
Work hard and show that you’re enthusiastic! Enthusiam gets you a long way, as well as willingness to learn. You learn something new every day with this job.
