Field Engineer Intern

June - August 2022 • Bridgewater, NJ

What I liked

My experience at Turner provided me with an extremely diverse look into the world of construction! Not only was I given challenging, value-based tasks on my job assignment, but I had the opportunity to explore other projects that my fellow interns were assigned to and see what kind of work they were doing there. I learned so much in the short amount of time, the team really put their all into making my experience as meaningful as possible. Everyone was willing and ready to offer their knowledge and mentorship.

What I wish was different

I wish the experience had been longer. I would have had the opportunity to take on long-term projects with more impact to the project. We also would have been able to tour more of our fellow interns job sites.

Advice

Enter this experience ready to learn! There's such diversity among every team in terms of their own experience, both on the job and in life. Everyone had something different and valuable to offer.

What I liked

The atmosphere and people that you get to work with at Turner Construction are amazing. Coming to work everyday was so interesting, especially in my role, because every day was something different out in the field.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had asked more questions. Everyone you're working with at Turner is so knowledgeable that even if you think it isn't a valid question, you'll learn something.

Advice

I would say to just fully embrace being able to get hands on experience while working for Turner. It may seem like you have a lot of time in the semester, but it flies by so take advantage of it while you can!

Engineering intern

June - November 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved getting to help everyone on the project with different tasks. It exposed me to a lot of new things I had never experienced before. My favorite part was working on a punchlist and getting to learn how to interact with subcontractors and foreman.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to try more MEP related tasks.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask questions! It’s better to ask a lot of questions and get it done in a shorter amount of time than try on your own and take hours.

Construction Project Management Intern

April - September 2019 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I love the values and standards of the company I worked for. My coworkers were so understanding and patient with me. I felt comfortable asking questions and didn't feel embarrassed. I got a lot of hands-on experience working in the field as well as the office. I learned new softwares, principles, and networked with others.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had another intern with me on the project. There were many other interns working for the same company, but stationed at different projects. Although, since I was the only intern on my specific project, I got more hands-on experience than any other intern normally would.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't feel embarrassed if you don't know anything, you're an intern and you there to learn! Be yourself! :)
