Administrative Assistant Intern

May - August 2022 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I really enjoyed the problem-solving aspect, such as building portfolios for clients.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more designed tasks and direct instructions.

Advice

I would say that networking and personal relations with people is still underrated in the eyes of many.

Internal Audit Intern

May - August 2017 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

Great company, very helpful and friendly co-workers. Learned a good deal about auditing procedures, and the operations of a financial institution.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been more involved with the quantitative analytics.

Advice

Learn as much as you can during your first couple of weeks, and ask as many questions as you can. For finance majors the Financial Institutions course is helpful. Also keep asking if there is anything you could do without waiting for an assignment. Take advantage of networking opportunities.

Business Analyst Intern

June - August 2018 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I like the environment and culture of Suntrust. Gwendolyn, Allen, and the internship program facilitators did an awesome job at ensuring we- the interns- received proper information and resources to make sure we had an unforgettable experience.

What I wish was different

In a sense everything turned out way better than I hoped for, however if I had a chance to experience the different department within Suntrust - I would have gotten a better understanding of the processes that run the business, but the experience is what you make it and that was my responsibility to make happen.

Advice

The experience is what you make it. If you want to learn more about a certain department- make it know. If you want to work with a different team- make it known. The key i to be transparent because nobody knows what you want until you make it know. Everybody at Suntrust is very resourceful and friendly so you will not have an issue communicating with others.

Data Analytics Intern

June - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

Every day and every experience was a learning opportunity. Not only did I learn a lot about my field of study, but I got a taste of what a real job working with people of different backgrounds is like. Whether those differences were academic, professional, or cultural, learning how to work well with others on a team is just as important as having top-notch technical skills.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have worked on more projects. I had two main projects to work on, but I felt I could have done more.

Advice

I should have talked to more people in management positions. I only spoke to a handful of them, mostly because I was too intimidated or felt they wouldn't want to be bothered by an intern. In reality, those people are the ones who are most willing to help you and give advice. Don't ever be afraid to ask higher ups for advice. Not only does it show you are interested and committed, but you may learn something new!

What I liked

A real hands-on experience in which I was tasked with applying the accounting and finance concepts to SOX testing procedures. The flexibility of choosing your hours allowed me to leverage school work well.

What I wish was different

The ability to engage more in a teamwork setting rather than individual.

Advice

Ask logical questions and commit to the position as if it were a full-time position.

Wealth Intern

June - August 2021 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

This internship was an amazing opportunity to explore the entire field of wealth management, from advising to investment research and advisory. We had the opportunity to rotate through areas we were most interested in, and work on specific teams to accomplish meaningful work in the field. There was many opportunities to connect with teammates across the company, as well as other interns. We were exposed to an abundant amount of career development coaching and resources as well.

Commercial Banking Intern

May - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I was able to interact directly with clients, and I was given a large amount of exposure to senior leaders including CEO, Kelly King.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to spend more time on one specific project or deal rather than being spread across a bunch. I would have liked to see one deal from start to finish that I could have played a large role in making happen.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask what else you can do. The more people you talk to and ask if they need help the more exposure and experiences you will get to be a part of.
