State Farm

Insurance Claims Intern

May - October 2019 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

I enjoyed the professional corporate environment as well as the opportunity to interact with employees and VPs from different areas within the company. Interacting with the interns from the other State Farm locations was enjoyable as well, and the work was complex enough to keep me on my toes and make me feel as though I was making a real difference within the company.

What I wish was different

I wish the day-to-day schedule was a bit more strict; some days it felt like we were just wasting time because several components of our schedule had fallen through for some reason or another.

Advice

Come into the office every day ready to learn and pay close attention during training. Ask questions too! Everything you learn in training will be exactly what you do throughout the internship, so make sure you understand as much as you can.

Software Developer intern

June - July 2019 • Dunwoody, GA

What I liked

The 2019 State Farm summer technology internship provided me with a meaningful internship that equipped me with experience to last a lifetime. They put a lot of effort into their internship program and you can tell that they care a lot about their interns. Along with the meaningful work, State Farm provided an amazing work environment that is very friendly and guiding.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

It is okay to not know everything. If you are working on a project that you do not understand, do not be scared to ask for clarification! Asking questions is normal and it is expected as an intern.

Technology Intern

June - August 2019 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

State Farm has an amazing corporate culture. The location is great, the workspace is great, everyone that works at State Farm is great. Lots of neat opportunities (like the internal hackathon or intern CTF).

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been integrated into an existing team like the rest of the interns, instead of being on a team consisting solely of interns. To be fair, this was a-typical. Most interns were placed on existing teams.

Advice

I would tell people to apply early since State Farm begins considering candidates early on.
