Staples, Inc.

Head Tech

May - September 2019 • Prince George, VA

What I liked

Finaly having the chance to do a job related to technology. I spent a good chunk of my time working on and repairing computers.

What I wish was different

How punctual closing hours were. I hated having to work closing shifts, because even though we'd be scheduled to leave at 10, I sometimes left nearly 2 hours later because of the incompetency of others.

Advice

Never, ever work the department floor. It is the most degrading and mind numbing experience possible. Couple that with the same awful music day in and day out for hours on end, it's more so torture than a simple job.

I loved getting more experience with sales, it really helped me develop my interpersonal skills and work on approaching people conversations with more confidence.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to know what my sponsibilities were going to be more closely before I was hired, but I enjoyed everything I ended up doing.

Front End

June 2019 - October 2020 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I enjoyed the customer service aspect of this job. I very much like to work with others and help others to complete their daily tasks. I enjoy learning from people and their experiences. The coworkers at my locations were very helpful and kind, and I also enjoyed working with them.

What I wish was different

The managerial team at the Pittsburgh location was somewhat disrespectful and inconsiderate. Sometimes, the pace of work would increase, but there were not enough workers to handle the increasingly impatient customers.

Advice

The work at Staples is tedious and tiring, and some customers are very demanding and will do anything to get their way. The best way to handle these situations is to remain calm and at peace with yourself, for each shift is different and you can never know what will happen. Some customers demand tasks that are out of your hands, but it's best to just reassure them that you are doing everything you can to help.
