The St. Louis Surge is a women's professional basketball team in St. Louis, Missouri which competes in the Global Women's Basketball Association (GWBA). The Surge has won 5 regional championships in the years of 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018 and are 2-time National Champions for the years of 2014 and 2016. The Surge is heading into its 9th season as of the 2021 year.
The Surge has been a part of the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) since 2008, which is a professional woman’s league that consists of many member teams from major cities across the United States. The Surge joined the Global Women's Basketball Association (GWBA) in 2019.
In May 2011, the Surge finalized a new coaching structure under the new ownership of Khalia Collier, Owner and General Manager. It was at this time that Collier implemented the new model of the program, focusing on the character of the player first and talent second. It’s under this model that the Surge continues to build championship programs each year, attracting post-graduate players from diverse basketball backgrounds.
