Sentio University

Intern

May - June 2024 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I loved the mentor to intern ratio. We were a small group, which made me feel very well supported. This internship truly gave me a good introduction on what to expect as a therapist. I'm truly grateful for this experience.

What I wish was different

I enjoyed this internship so much. I wish it was longer because what we learned and practiced was so valuable!

Advice

Be authentic to yourself! I encourage interns to explore their style when engaging in client-therapist scenarios.

Intern

July - August 2024 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I loved how Sentio offers this unique internship that I’ve never seen before presented to undergraduate students. I loved that Sentio provides undergraduate students with graduate level education and real world career knowledge and experience. I appreciate Sentio’s desire to help undergraduate students get a leg up in their careers.

What I wish was different

I wish this internship met more times during the week since this is only a month long internship. We only met once a week and I would have loved to have met more than that.

Advice

Since this is only a month long internship, I highly recommend making the most out of it by engaging a lot with the material, engaging a lot during weekly meetings, and connecting with Sentio faculty. I did all these things and can say that this was the best career focused opportunity that I have taken this far.

MFT Internship

June 2024 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

- Learned a lot with the limited time we had together. - Got to practice skills a lot and gained valuable feedback between one another - I didn't really know much about this career pathway in the mental health field, and many of my courses didn't go in depth with therapy, so this was a great way to get an introduction to therapeutic methods.

What I wish was different

- Not much I can think of, but I would've liked to know more about how a full session might typically look like beyond the skills we practiced. (EX) what happens next after we give our response to the client?). But, given the time constraints in which we met, I was overall satisfied.

Advice

- I would say to be actively engaged, really hone in on the criteria, and practice a lot. You'll only get better if you practice again and again.

Undergraduate Intern

January - February 2024 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I liked that the cohorts were small, so it was easier to refine learned skills from Deliberate Practice. Each session gave insight on what it was like to do psychotherapy. Though it's generally for MFT practice, the skills learned can extend to other areas of psychology, like clinical practice.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

Even if MFT isn't an area of interest for your future career, definitely still give the internship a try as the skills taught extend to other areas that can apply to your career.

Account Executive Intern (Construction)

January - February 2024 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the deliberate practice groups that we would engage in every week. I felt that this time spent was beneficial in providing me background of what my potential career may look like.

What I wish was different

I just wished that the groups were a bit larger than the small and concise groups that we had, however, I enjoyed the time and effort that was being given to us interns. Looking back now, I understand why the groups were so intimate, it was to be able to acquire all of the time and knowledge that was needed for us to obtain within that day.

Advice

Find the fun in immersing yourself in the field of psychotherapy. This time will truly enhance your understanding of Marriage & Family Therapy and the different skills that are required for this field of work. Have fun & Enjoy.

Marriage and Family Therapist Intern

December 2023 - January 2024 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

It is very difficult to find specific internship opportunities for Marriage and Family Therapy, so I'm so grateful that I came across this opportunity. I learned a lot and got a glimpse into what it will feel like to be a graduate student in an MFT program. The schedule was very light which was great as well.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

It is not a big time commitment, so I highly reccomend applying for the internship if you are considering becoming an MFT.
