Scripps Research is ranked the most influential institution in the world for its impact on innovation. We expand basic knowledge in the biosciences, and use these fundamental advancements to develop profound innovations and medical breakthroughs to better human health around the globe. We are also a leader in the education and training of tomorrow’s scientists.
The Skaggs Graduate School of Chemical and Biological Sciences offers a top-ten ranked doctoral program that empowers students to make high-impact discoveries at the interface of chemistry and biology. Students can earn their degree in 12 research areas that broadly capture the diversity of scientific investigation undertaken by Scripps Research: Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Chemical Biology, Chemistry, Computational Biology/Bioinformatics, Genetics/Genomics, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Neuroscience, and Structural Biology/Biophysics. Students design their own training program that span one or more of these areas, with access to courses, laboratories, resources, and expertise in all of them. The school also offers dual degree programs with Florida Atlantic University; University of California, San Diego; and the University of Oxford. Approximately 325 doctoral students from diverse backgrounds are enrolled at two locations, La Jolla, California and Jupiter, Florida, working with more than 125 graduate faculty.
Undergraduate programs at Scripps Research give college students the hands-on laboratory experience and mentorship needed to discover their passion and succeed in graduate school and beyond. Students can find unique mentoring and research experiences to undergraduates during the summer and throughout the academic year. Our programs are especially geared toward students with little or no prior research experience, students with few research opportunities at their home institutions, students from underrepresented and underserved populations, and students who are the first in their family to go to college.
In support of our laboratories and programs, Scripps Research also employs highly skilled professionals in several functional areas, including Finance, Accounting, Operations, Legal & Compliance, Procurement, Grant Support, Human Resources and Technology Development. In addition to our full-time and part-time opportunities, we also host internships throughout the year in several of these areas, with the joint goal of bringing the best talent together and promoting diversity of thought, culture and background in the fields of science.
Together, our educational programs and robust support services, cultivate new scientific leaders and expand the frontiers of knowledge to deliver medical breakthroughs and to improve human health around the globe. If you have a passion for making a difference, this could be your opportunity to join our transformative institute.
