I enjoyed how I was able to work with faculty on campus and see the "behind-the-scenes" factor of how Tenured faculty process worked.
What I wish was different
It was a bit stressful, as most of the projects were urgent, but I enjoyed it regardless.
Advice
It would be great if the projects assigned to us in the department were given in advance so we are not rushing to complete them.

What I liked
I loved that I was able to help incoming students with their transition from their previous institution to my university. Everyday was an opportunity to ease someone's anxiety from entering college. I also worked with a team of 30, and this position helped me polish my leadership style and enhance soft skills such as public speaking and active listening.

Aquatic Student Manager
April 2018 • San Francisco, CA
What I liked
I love that the job itself is very flexible. I get to set my own hours and work when I want. For me as a current student that makes a whole world of difference. Specifically this summer I loved all of the opportunities that were provided to me by the Campus Rec department of SFSU. This summer I had the opportunity to network with other people through a NIRSA workshop as well as grow my skills through class provided at our facility. I love that I am apart of a team who supports my growth as a student, a professional and an individual.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had the opportunity to see my family more this summer but due to the demands of the job I spent most of my summer up here in the Bay rather than at home with my family.
Advice
Always embrace every opportunity given to you through this company. Even when the Monday evening meetings are on something boring like time management or how to send better emails, listen to the advice you're being given. Many people don't have access to free resources like the ones Campus Rec provides their employees. Besides, you never know when you might end up using some of the tools you have been given.

Psychologist Research Assistant
June 2018 • San Francisco, CA
What I liked
Experiencing the first steps of research was interesting. It was a bit difficult and a bit tedious at times, but I was able to hone my writing/synthesizing and reading skills. I also learned more information about VR, leadership development, different types of leadership, perception of female and male leadership, scales of measure, and more.
What I wish was different
I was hoping for in-lab time, but I know this was dependent on the timeline of each research project.
Advice
Learn how much workload you can handle and approximately how long you think it will take you (not how long it SHOULD take).
