What I liked

It is a remote job so I do not have to commute anywhere. My job is also very simple, but rewarding in a way.

Remote Medical Scribe

August 2019 - March 2020 • Austin, TX

What I liked

I liked that I got to work with different physicians. I was able to see the differences in their workflows and unique patient care styles. I've shadowed quite a bit during undergrad but by scribing with Robin, I was able to see much more. I also liked the company's atmosphere. From day one, everyone has been super helpful and always ready to answer my questions (and believe me you'll have plenty!) I felt supported going through training and scribing that it felt less like a job and more like just a learning opportunity.

What I wish was different

If you are looking for a job that will be exactly the same from the day of hire to the day you leave, Robin may not be for you. When Robin expressed their innovativeness, it doesn't stop just with being a remote scribing position. To make processes better and implement feedback from their employees, Robin makes changes frequently. However, I don't mind it too much, I like a job that actually implements change for the better.

Advice

My advice is to give Robin a shot. It might look kind of scary with all the training you have to do and the responsibility you'll have, but trust me when I say it'll be a great chance to gain some healthcare experience from home and solidify your goals.

What I liked

I learned so much just within my first few weeks at Robin. It's been a really great way to spend my gap year and a big topic of conversation during med school interviews. The company is constantly evolving so my job is pretty different now than it even was just a few months ago, which has honestly been a pro for me since it keeps me on my toes and has taught me how to adapt quickly in a work environment. Management is good about listening/asking for feedback from scribes and being transparent with what's going on within the company which I've also been super appreciative of knowing that I haven't always had that in previous jobs. My day to day as a scribe is basically clocking in, logging into the software Robin uses to help scribes write notes, and working to complete notes and finish my clinic each day. If I finish early or my doctor doesn't have clinic that day, I can hop over to another doctor and help my coworkers which is nice because I know I can always get the hours I want and switch things up to learn from another doctor. There's a Chief that you report to, and my Chief in particular has been supportive and always available for questions. I like that I get to work independently for the most part but there are always people to reach out to if I have questions or need help.

What I wish was different

Honestly not much. The medical coding part of the job is the most difficult, but also the part where I get to problem solve the most so I enjoy the challenge. Anything I could give negative feedback on leadership has either addressed since I've been at Robin or is actively working on.

Advice

This job does require you to be engaged and present, so if you have a lot of other things going on and need a job on the side this job probably isn't for you. But if you're committed and involved, it's incredibly rewarding and you learn so much. Apply yourself from the beginning, and you'll see it pay off in the skills you gain and likely with promotions as well since management likes to promote from within.

Medical Scribe

February - September 2018 • Austin, TX

What I liked

They worked around your schedule and we got to watch patient - physician encounters without physically following the physician around. Having the interactions recorded was beneficial.

What I wish was different

We worked hard and were constantly pushed to work faster. Sometimes it seemed like we were never efficient enough. We worked a lot more than what we were paid for.

Advice

It’s an amazing experience and you learn a lot about a physicians everyday work schedule.
