About Peninsula Family Service

Peninsula Family Service strengthens the community by providing children, families, and older adults the support and tools to realize their full potential and lead healthy, stable lives. Headquartered in San Mateo, Peninsula Family Service provides services and programs in San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties. For sixty-six years, Peninsula Family Service has provided and continues to provide assistance to approximately 12,000 people per year. PFS has a $12.4 million annual operating budget (77% government funding and contracts, 18% private funding, 3.5% in program participant fees, and 1.5% from a small endowment and other income).

Peninsula Family Service believes communities are strongest when opportunity, financial stability and wellness are secured for all. They provide evidence-based support and tools to help:
• Vulnerable children reach their dreams
• Struggling older adults thrive
• Hard-working families break the cycle of poverty

Peninsula Family Service’s early learning programs prepare children for kindergarten and work with families to provide a stable learning environment for their children. Older adult programs promote wellness, active life styles, and social connections. Financial empowerment programs help improve financial knowledge, build credit, develop assets, and lead to financial stability.

“I liked having tasks to complete that were actually beneficial for the organization and the members of the community. It was helpful being surrounded by people who speak Spanish because it is easier to learn when immersed in settings where the language is heavily spoken. ”
