What I liked
I loved the independence. I was a researcher working on an IRAD, doing work that I really enjoyed. At first, I was a little nervous because I have never had this kind of freedom before. I wasn't sure if I could pace and motivate myself through the summer. But I quickly came to realize that I really enjoyed this level of independence, where it was entirely up to me on what I wanted to do.
What I wish was different
I wish there were more time dedicated to interacting with the other interns in the program. At the Mclean location, there were only around 10 other interns, and it was quiet for most of the day.
Advice
Come in with a brand new mindset--this internship is not like that of other companies. It is highly independent, and it is entirely up to you to get things done. Nobody is going to be around to push you, you need to push yourself.

The people were very nice and willing to help. They had various events for the interns to make them more comfortable and inform them of the opportunities the company offered.

I wish I had been team that was more intern-friendly where I would have had more guidance and more opportunities to gain hands on experience.

Learn about the company and make sure that not only the environment and work energy matches you but also that there are opportunities for growth.

The people I met were extremely friendly and willing to teach me the ins and outside of the field. The hours were also incredibly flexible.
What I wish was different
Sometimes there wasn't a whole lot to do and the office life could be a bit dull. Also there wasn't any wifi in the building I was in.
