What I wish was different

The internship was remote because of the pandemic. So I wish I was able to go into the office.

Advice

There is a lot to learn and lots of opportunity in a company like Northrop Grumman and it’s important to find an employer that treats you right!

Business Management Intern

June - August 2020 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

I loved how communicative every employee was and how helpful they were. With the position turning remote due to Covid-19, they did an amazing job adapting and making the internship wonderful.

What I wish was different

I wish it hadn't been remote, but the pandemic could not have been avoided.

Advice

Ask all the questions you have. They want you to learn and grow and hopefully one day work for them full time.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern

June - August 2020 • San Diego, CA

What I liked

It was a very interactive internship and I was working with other employees to learn more about the world of professional engineering. By my third week I had infinite more knowledge and felt more confident about my abilities as a full time engineer and in regards to my place at Northrop and other possible companies. This experience gave me insight to the world of professional engineering and helped me understand my own abilities and faults.

What I wish was different

Other than hoping that we all could have been in person and not been experiencing a pandemic this experience was overall amazing.

Advice

I would say to go for every single experience you are offered and be ready for anything that comes your way. I feel my openness is largely why I ended up having such an incredible experience.

Systems Engineering Intern

May 2021 • Huntsville, AL

What I liked

I love the opportunities that Northrop Grumman has for interns like myself. At NGC, you are placed in an environment where you will receive real work. You are not the "coffee getter". You are assigned a task manager and a functional manager that will walk alongside you to guide and train you to be a great employee. NGC wants you to succeed, and they will do everything in their power to make it happen!

What I wish was different

I wish they were more strategic about how and where they place interns on teams. I originally started out on an automation team (which is not my college background).

Advice

Keep an open mind, and never stop asking questions.

Flight Systems Engineering Intern

May - August 2021 • Roy, UT

What I liked

Was given numerous meaningful tasks throughout the summer, really felt like an added asset to the team and that they valued my work effort.

What I wish was different

I wish that there was more cross-team collaboration, so that I could have seen more aspects of the program. That being said, it was a confidential project so it makes sense that teams cannot communicate a lot with each other.

Advice

Network from Day 1. The aerospace industry, especially space is still really small compared to a lot of other engineering industries. I met so many people who had worked on insane previous projects, like Space Shuttle, Falcon 9 Boosters, Hubble Telescope, and lots of others. There's a ton of knowledge available, especially from the senior engineers.

Hardware Engineer Intern

June 2022 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

Learned a lot of what an engineer actually is and saw how little I actually knew about my engineering field.

What I wish was different

I was a hardware intern but I exclusively worked in scripting for hardware tools rather than learning about hardware design or test verification.

Advice

Keep a very open mind on what you will be doing, cause chances are you'll be doing something you didn't expect you'd be working on. But it's always going to be a learning experience and that knowledge is very valuable.

Hardware Engineer Intern

June - August 2022 • Charlottesville, VA

What I liked

I liked how I was able to touch on numerous tasks during my time there. Also, the culture was great. Everyone respected my opinions even though I had zero previous industry experience.

What I wish was different

Nothing.

Advice

Ask lots of questions! Everyone I worked with had a lot of experience (some were even subject matter experts). By asking questions, I was able to relate what I was doing at my internship to what I had been learning in my classes. I was also able to grasp new skills quicker by asking for advice/help.

What I liked

I enjoyed working with the team because they were all very warm and welcoming of me. Throughout the internship, they were very helpful whenever I had questions and were willing to assign me a variety of tasks to allow me to learn as much in my limited time.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been longer so I had more time to participate in different projects.

Advice

The EHS team at NGC is great and this is a perfect opportunity to learn about both environmental compliance and industrial hygiene in a manufacturing setting.
