The office was very nice and the kitchen was clean and functional. Everyone was super nice and welcoming. I never felt fear of failure because my peers and supervisor were helpful in the learning process. Also, it was a relatively easy commute from where I live. There was a sandwich shop close by and I felt safe at work. HR was easy to work with and I enjoyed the outings with my co-workers.
What I wish was different
I wish the firm owned the parking deck. It was expensive and the parking deck staff were OK to work with.
Advice
Go in ready to learn daily. School prepares students the best it can but nothing compares to working in the field. You are going to feel overwhelmed at times and will probably have many questions. Ask your questions, take notes, and most importantly listen. Do your best and be positive about the opportunities given to you and you'll do just fine! My team at Myers & Stauffer Atlanta was great to work with!

Audit Intern
May - August 2023 • Windsor, CT
What I liked
My time as an intern at Myers and Stauffer in Windsor, CT, was truly enriching. I had the opportunity to work on substantial projects that deepened my understanding of accounting intricacies. The guidance I received from mentors Amanda Vollano and Todd Poulter was exceptional. Amanda's patient approach and Todd's constructive feedback were instrumental in my growth.
The projects involving User Fees and trial balance reconciliation for field reviews were particularly engaging. These experiences significantly improved my problem-solving skills and expanded my comprehension of Medicaid and Medicare. The chance to independently navigate past year examples added a practical dimension to my learning.
The flexible work-life balance provided by the company allowed me to manage my commitments effectively. The learning opportunities were abundant, and the collaborative atmosphere among the team members was truly conducive to growth.
What I wish was different
While my overall experience was highly positive (9.97 out of 10), there were a few areas that could have been enhanced. Having more structured learning sessions or workshops could have provided additional avenues for skill development. More opportunities to interact with professionals from different departments would have offered a more comprehensive view of the company's operations.
Advice
Make the most of the mentorship available. Amanda Vollano and Todd Poulter were invaluable resources - don't hesitate to ask questions and seek guidance. Next, build connections within the company. Networking with colleagues can open doors to learning from diverse perspectives and discovering hidden opportunities.

What I liked
I loved my experience at Myers and Stauffer. What made this experience so memorable was the people I got to work with. I made great friends not only with the interns I worked with but also with the full-time staff currently working there. I absolutely loved my supervisor and she made sure to give me opportunities in every kind of work there that I had an interest in. Unlike a bigger company, my experience was much more personal and hands-on and that really made the difference for me. I loved it so much that I decided to stay on and work remote for them in the fall.
What I wish was different
Honestly, there was nothing I wish had been different. This was my first internship and I could not have asked for a better first internship experience.
Advice
One piece of advice I would share is to not be afraid to ask questions. Everyone at Myers and Stauffer emphasizes your learning over anything and they appreciate it when you ask them questions. Additionally, don't be afraid to ask for more opportunities through Myers and Stauffer. I had an interest in working in their fraud department so I asked my supervisor about it and I ended up with a shadowing opportunity that I never would have gotten had I not asked. Also, take the time to make connections there. Everyone there is amazing and I know the connections I made will last a lifetime.

What I liked
I loved my team, they were super friendly, inviting, and helpful in the huge learning curve that this particular job entails.
What I wish was different
The only thing I wish would have been different was a little more communication before my first day on what team I was going to be working with exactly.
Advice
Ask lots of questions, this kind of work is not something you will ever see in classrooms and you'll need the help of your seniors and managers to fully start to understand the work you are doing.
