This was a truly hands on experience and my schedule looked different every week. I was able to work with a team of other interns and spent a lot of time working directly with migrant workers. I was able to speak Spanish every day and learn about a community that does not get a lot of attention in Vermont.
What I wish was different
Migrant Justice is an NGO working on a lot of different things at once. Having different tasks was fine with me, but if you are looking for a more concrete schedule with clear roles this position is a bit more fluid.
Advice
It can be intimidating at first to speak Spanish with a whole team of native Spanish speakers. Don't be afraid to make a mistake, everyone is welcoming and happy that you share the same values in doing this kind of work. Don't be afraid to voice interest in having experiences with the organization or working on a specific project. Think about ways you can be a good asset to the organization.
