Maryland Anxiety Center

Undergraduate Clinical intern

June - August 2022 • Towson, MD

What I liked

I really liked the close-knit environment, because there were only a few of us we got the opportunity to have conversations with the director and were able to ask for help or clarification about anything from our supervisor. All the staff members were really attentive, understanding and supportive.

Clinical Psychology Intern

June - August 2019 • Towson, MD

What I liked

One day a week was sitting in with the counselors hearing about their clients. Learned a lot from this and almost all of the internship consisted of sitting in the conference room just listening. One other day per week was a learning day. Learned a lot about cognitive behavioral therapy and how to apply it to different disorders. Also learned a lot about exposure therapy which I thought was interesting.

What I wish was different

A little bit more organization such as giving us something to do besides just sitting and listening most of the time.

Advice

If you're looking for a hands-on internship I would suggest looking elsewhere. This was a very beneficial internship, and I learned a lot, but I didn't feel like I was doing much of anything bedsides sitting and listening (nothing hands-on).

Student, Research Gatherer

June 2017 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

The program involved close interaction with the therapists - great for getting letters of rec. It was also flexible to our (the interns') interests; activities were emphasized or skipped based on our existing knowledge and fields of interest.

What I wish was different

The program was very disorganized.

Advice

Don't talk politics. It won't end well.
