What I wish was different

Though no ones fault, I wish that the internship had been in person and not online.

Talent Delivery Team Intern

June - August 2021 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I really liked the opportunity to pick my own projects and got to learn more about the different career options. The intern programming was also well planned out and engaging! Attending the events was fun and allowed me to connect with other interns while learning more about the company. Overall, it was a great experience for my future career and increased my skills and connections.

What I wish was different

I wished the experience was in person. This internship was fully remote and individuals were working from all areas. I wanted the experience of interning in a physical office, but that was not the case. Even with the remote component, the programing and involvement of the program still left me feeling connected and engaged with the company and internship.

Advice

Definitely ask questions and learn about the company/department. They are so welcoming and everyone is willing to meet with interns to provide any advice or expertise. Take the initiative to speak up and it's okay to make mistakes, the internship is meant to be a learning curve.

Gained a lot of good experience. Learned how to use multiple new analytical programs and improved communication skills.

Workers Compensation Claims Intern

June 2021 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

I liked the availability to transition to a virtual work environment. Having a virtual experience was new for me, and I think I enjoyed it.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had the chance to go into the office on a hybrid schedule. While I enjoyed the virtual experience, I also enjoy working in an organized space, not just a kitchen table.

Advice

I would encourage others to seek out the opportunity themselves. I did a random Google search to find this opportunity, not on any other website.

HR Intern

May - August 2020 • Plano, TX

What I liked

I loved the type of projects I was exposed to. The amount of networking we were able to do with senior management was just great. And the people at Liberty were amazing and there was a real emphasis on real world work that affected others.

What I wish was different

I wish we could've seen the locations we worked at rather than being completely virtual. And Liberty does a Senior Summit, where all rising seniors get to fly out to Boston and sit in with the C Suite management. This year the summit was virtual.

Advice

Find a company that you would actually want to work at and use your internship as a test environment. It's a great opportunity to make sure the company is the right fit for you too. Ask questions and don't be afraid to ask for help. Get to know your manager and other mangers who will be able to help you grow.

Enterprise Security & Business Continuity Intern

May - August 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I appreciated how much trust administrators and superiors put on their interns. As an ES&BC intern, I had a first-hand experience of how a global Fortune 500 company handles crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and my superiors were really looking forward to whatever insight I had to offer to create creative solutions to a whole array of risks and issues.

What I wish was different

I wish we were in person, or at least got to tour the office at some point.

Advice

Don't be shy to reach out about anything or ask "dumb" questions! It shows your initiative to learn more about your role and the business!

Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2020 • Dover, NH

What I liked

The Pay I was treated as a junior engineer; there were two full-time new hires, and the treatment was essentially the same. Work was interesting and relevant to my studies Able to work from home during COVID pandemic. I was hired pretty early; got the offer in November for an internship starting in May.

What I wish was different

Getting started working from home was a little rough, but honestly went better than expected.

Advice

Take a deep breath and take your time in technical interviews; they're more interested in your process than your results. Be ready for anything; I was in a hosting role, equal parts software engineering and system administration.

Real Estate Transactions Intern

May - August 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

How multifaceted the internship was. I was able to meet and worth with brokers, analyst, lease administration people. My managers gave me so much freedom in finding the avenues I liked and let me dive deep into. My managers were all incredibly flexible as well which made the experience amazing.

What I wish was different

Obviously having it be in person would have been great, besides that I have no other wishes.

Advice

The internship wasn't in a field I was particularly interested in. However just having that internship and being able to build that network allowed me to find aspects of that field that I found interested and lined up closer to my interests, eventually leading to me landing a full time job in my field of choice.
