I really enjoyed working with kids of all different ages as my manager would have me float around to different groups where I was needed. This allowed me to see the diversity of different age groups and their behaviors in a school/play environment.
What I wish was different
I do wish that the experiences I've had during the time I was an inclusion counselor were being used for some kind of research purposes. I feel it would bring a lot of value to study the interactions of special needs children integrated into an atypical camp setting surrounded by many other children of various ages. Although, I am biased due to my previous work experience.
Advice
I have worked a job prior to this one that gave me the tools and knowledge to do this job so much more effectively. I had gone through my Board Certification for becoming an Autism Technician in the training in my previous job. Because of this, I was able to understand how to respond and interact with my individual kid or few kids that I was responsible for throughout the camp weeks.
It's good to have exposure to disabled or problematic behavior children before entering this job, but as a first job, I can imagine it would be a great learning and rewarding experience.
