What I liked

The job was fun and I liked the people I worked with.

What I wish was different

I wish I would’ve been able to gain experience in my field.

Advice

If you don’t get a job on the first try at the place you want, try other places to gain experience that might help you get the job you want eventually.

Retail Stocker

May - August 2019 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

Pretty easy going atmosphere with friendly people.

What I wish was different

Managers were very lenient and didn't have any discipline in order for associate stealing etc.

Advice

The customers are rude and entitled because of the rich area. Not very fun to be doing a managers job when they won't.

Kroger clerk

July 2014 • Holt, MI

What I liked

The friendships that I’ve made.

What I wish was different

Management needs improvement. Learn how to talk to employees with respect.

Advice

This job is an easy summer gig but for the hourly wage, poor management, and sometimes unfriendly customers it is not worth the pay.

Sales associate

June 2018 • North Augusta, SC

What I liked

I was over the self checkout. I liked being able to help customers with the machines when they needed it. Other times it was just the smiles and compliments I received.

What I wish was different

I wasn't formally trained to work self checkout. They just threw me on self checkout to give someone a break. It was a huge learning curve so I wish I had actually been trained on how the machines worked.

Advice

Always be friendly to the people around you. Kindness goes a long way.

Cashier

June - August 2019 • Grosse Pointe, MI

What I liked

Interacting with people and that the job was relatively easy didn’t require any knowledge or skills I didn’t already have. Kroger also had a strong family environment which I loved

What I wish was different

Understaffed, I wish there was enough people to handle their own positions. I would sometimes have to do some of the fulfillments of someone else’s position.

Advice

Make sure you are willing to move at a fast pace and efficiently. Step out of your comfort zone when interacting with customers and make the job your own.

Grocery Stocker

March 2017 • Fort Collins, CO

What I liked

I enjoyed the employee discount on everything Kroger brand. Especially as a student paying for rent and tuition, groceries can cost a lot, so the discount helps out.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more employees in order to produce a well-done job and keep standards high.

Advice

I would advise working as a stocker rather than a customer service position due to a higher pay rate. If you want the most money and school is done or not an option, start on the night crew. There is where you make the most with overnight premiums and overtime, of course.

E-Commerce Clerk

June - August 2019 • Longmont, CO

What I liked

Nice summer job, friendly empolyees. Ability to help people and brighten their day, able to listen to music.

What I wish was different

Some empolyees were overly fond of taking an excessive amount of time to run errands. And managerial positions changed the entire enviornment.

Advice

Good for an introverted summer job.
