Kroger (261544)

Fry's Associate

May 2019 • Gilbert, AZ

What I liked

My coworkers and the way they helped me because my job is very hard to learn.

What I wish was different

The hours make it so that I am extremely sore after work. You can expect to never have weekends off.

Advice

You do not want to spend your life doing this.

Stocking

June 2019 • Suwanee, GA

What I liked

Stocking, specifically in General Merchandise, is pretty convenient and easy to pick up. As long as one is working diligently, work load should not be overwhelming. It is lax, or "chill" in general. Employees that I worked with were very friendly. They made an environment where I didn't feel pressured. Ah, and also, 10% employee discount on Kroger products comes in handy.

What I wish was different

The structure and organization of Kroger is fine. There is really nothing to point out. If anything, I would like Kroger to enforce greater "education" on managers, because I have experienced a Human Resources manager that would direct his anger on us (associates and I).

Advice

Be diligent, ask questions, always confirm if given an instruction. I would also suggest getting a Kroger app, because this bad boy tells you where every products are.

Cashier

October 2017 • Westfield, IN

What I liked

I love that I work with amazing coworkers. I love interacting with the customers that came in to the store. I also had many learning experiences that happened throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more experiences in other departments and more hours per week.

Advice

I would always say live one day at a time. Especially in retail, you cannot carry past experiences into the next days, because it will affect how you interact with customers.

I enjoyed getting to see people I knew in the store and getting cashier experience.

What I wish was different

I wish my supervisor had been both kinder and more understanding. My co-workers were also incredibly rude. I also wish I could have learned more about how money is networked throughout the store and gotten experience in my majors, Accounting and Finance.

Advice

Before and after interviewing for a job, make sure you are a good fit for the people who work there. Stop by the workplace and visit with some of the workers, if possible; if most of the people are unpleasant or you do not feel like you fit in or you do not feel like you will get the experience you desire, be on the lookout for other options.
