What I wish was different

I wish I could have worked there longer!

Office worker

What I liked

It was fun to get out and about and interact with many different cultures of people. It is also a great atmosphere with a large number of Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You become very good friends with your co-workers because you spend so much time together and there is no dating which helps to cut down on the drama.

Advice

Don't give into the "It's their fault" status quo.

Front Desk Staff

April - September 2019 • Jacob Lake, AZ

What I liked

I loved the location, we were within a couple of hours of so many great natural landscapes and we were encouraged to go and explore when we were not working. I also liked that room and board were provided which meant that I didn't have to worry about that and I got to know the people who worked there very well.

What I wish was different

It was difficult to work six days a week in the middle of nowhere sometimes, but that was just part of the job and the location.

Advice

I would say that you need to be able to get along with a wide variety of people as well as be a hard worker to be successful in this job.

Gift Shop Employee

April - September 2019 • Jacob Lake, AZ

What I liked

This was by far the best job I have ever had! The atmosphere is fantastic, the employees and management are so much fun, and there is so much to do on days off! I have hiked so many different places in southern Utah and northern Arizona that I never would have seen otherwise and I have met lifelong friends. The schedule is great too, since 4 hour shifts with a good couple hours break in between means you don't end up feeling as burned out as in other jobs I've had where you work 8 hours and have a half-hour lunch somewhere in the middle. There are fun things to do and great people to do them with every night.

What I wish was different

I honestly really enjoyed everything.

Advice

Make sure you know what you're signing up for. If you can't handle being 45 minutes from a town, living with 50ish people for a whole summer, or not dating your fellow employees, this isn't the place for you. However, if those are things you can deal with, the perks are fabulous and it'll be an amazing experience. Every rule has a good reason behind it - they've been at this since 1923 and they've learned what just doesn't work. Go in with a good attitude and you will LOVE IT!
