Jacob Lake Inn

About Jacob Lake Inn

Built in 1923 by Harold and Nina Nixon Bowman, Jacob Lake Inn is the "Gateway to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon." Nestled in the towering pines of the Kaibab National Forest and a scenic 44 mile drive from the canyon rim, we offer complete facilities for the traveler to Grand Canyon’s North Rim. However, we are centrally located for trips to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, the Navajo and Hopi Reservations, the Vermillion Cliffs, and Lake Powell, making Jacob Lake Inn the perfect base camp for anyone wishing to tour the beautiful sights of the Southwest. We offer our services year-round with a variety of activities for each season such as sight-seeing, fishing at the Colorado river, camping, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, hiking, biking, or just relaxing.

Jacob Lake Inn has been family owned and operated since it was founded by Harold and Nina Bowman in 1923. Now, the third and forth generation of Riches/Bowmans continue the tradition of competent friendly service, comfortable beds, excellent meals, famous baked goods, outstanding quality Native American Arts and Crafts, and useful information about this unique area.

Jacob Lake Inn is an “Inn” in the original sense of the word: a public house which offers hospitality and recreation. The name evokes the idea of home-like comfort, rustic surroundings, and friendly service. For 100 years we have followed the following philosophy at Jacob Lake Inn: Travelers are our guests and are welcome in our home. We welcome you to visit and experience what it was like to travel when the journey was as important as the destination.

“This was by far the best job I have ever had! The atmosphere is fantastic, the employees and management are so much fun, and there is so much to do on days off! I have hiked so many different places in southern Utah and northern Arizona that I never would have seen otherwise and I have met lifelong friends. The schedule is great too, since 4 hour shifts with a good couple hours break in between means you don't end up feeling as burned out as in other jobs I've had where you work 8 hours and have a half-hour lunch somewhere in the middle. There are fun things to do and great people to do them with every night.”

“I loved the location, we were within a couple of hours of so many great natural landscapes and we were encouraged to go and explore when we were not working. I also liked that room and board were provided which meant that I didn't have to worry about that and I got to know the people who worked there very well.”
