Marketing & Growth Strategies Intern

May - August 2020 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

This internship was incredibly unique and I learned quite a bit. It is a small company, and because of this I held a lot of responsibility. Through this job I learned about sales, marketing, improving onboarding experience, understanding customers, journalism, and everything else that goes into growing a startup.

What I wish was different

My actual job was not very similar to the description of the position. Because this is a startup, there is a lot of pivoting and switching tasks. There is a slight unpredictable nature of the job, but that provides for a fun challenge.

Advice

To a certain extent this job was like drinking from a fire hose, but I was able to learn and gain a lot of experience in a short amount of time. It was an amazing opportunity and I have learned lessons which I will draw from for the rest of my life.

Marketing & Analytics Intern

September 2018 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

Very small but dedicated team. Need to be very organized and willing to deal with craziness and lack of directive. Your duties are constantly changing perhaps out of your comfort zone and hours can be sporadic.

What I wish was different

I wish they had been upfront about what my position would turn into. Maybe they didn't know themselves but after the first month or so of selling I was more or less relegated to the back room guy who was always behind the scenes writing Excel files or doing GDPR reports.

Advice

Working with a small company requires a lot of adaptability, patience, organization, and communication skills. If you want to work here be prepared to never know the bigger picture and be willing to put your nose to the grindstone for your random odd tasks. The stated tasks on the job description will likely have absolutely nothing to do with your actual job.
