About Helpful Village

Helpful Village builds the software that runs the Village Movement.

Villages are local, volunteer-driven communities where neighbors help neighbors stay independent, connected, and at home as they age — a ride to the doctor, a fix for the iPad, a lightbulb changed, a yoga class, a friendly visit. Ninety percent of older adults want to age in their own homes, and more than 300 Villages across the United States and Canada make that possible.

Our platform is where a Village lives: membership, volunteers, service requests, events, websites, and payments in one place that older adults actually enjoy using. We are the market leader, powering about 130 Villages in 29 states and Canada, and thousands of members and volunteers use Helpful Village every day.

We are a small, focused, AI-native team based in the La Jolla / UC San Diego area, founded and led by a software engineer who still builds the product. Our plan for the next two years is simple: reach 90% of the Villages market, and help many more older adults discover what a Village can do for them.

Helpful Village began at UC Berkeley, where it was selected for LAUNCH, the University of California startup accelerator run by the Haas School of Business.

Marketing & Analytics Intern

September 2018 Salt Lake City, UT
“Very small but dedicated team. Need to be very organized and willing to deal with craziness and lack of directive. Your duties are constantly changing perhaps out of your comfort zone and hours can be sporadic.”

Marketing & Growth Strategies Intern

May 2020 - August 2020 Salt Lake City, UT
“This internship was incredibly unique and I learned quite a bit. It is a small company, and because of this I held a lot of responsibility. Through this job I learned about sales, marketing, improving onboarding experience, understanding customers, journalism, and everything else that goes into growing a startup.”
