The schduling is a little rough.It's comission based with hourly pay. You have to make your numbers or you get a pay cut

Merchandising Intern

What I liked

I was given the opportunity to shadow the managers of each department and learned how to manage a department myself. I enjoyed getting the chance to experience the very work I will be doing when I graduate, this helped me better understand what skills I needed to perfect and different parts of the job that I need to ask about if seeking to work with other companies (EX. My last company gave me directives of how product should be merchandised, does your company do this?). My other job also gave me the opportunity to travel to different locations, I like this because I could see how the same store chain can differ as a result of the store's management.

What I wish was different

The curriculum of this experience was up to the store and there would be times where our learning experience as an intern came second hard to our usefulness as sales associates. My degree program requires everyone to take an Internship and I wish I had a way of learning how theirs all went, so I have a better understanding of what companies are truly fun to work at, and which ones didnt work out/why

Advice

Interning is about learning about yourself, highlighting your strengths, finding and working through your failures. You dont have to intern at your dream job, but you should do it somewhere you can use to grow, or eliminate career options. No experience is a wasted one
