Great coworkers, very helpful in understanding any new concepts and friendly to talk to.
What I wish was different
I do wish there was more opportunity to learn about the business and meet more people in the company outside the branch.
Advice
It was a good opportunity to get banking experience and to have a different job for the summer. I would definitely recommend taking advantage of the different lectures they offer through the internship.

Human Resources Intern
May - August 2019 • Marlborough, MA
What I liked
I absolutely loved the work environment and the range of exposure I received in the HR field. Everyone was extremely nice there and willing to help me when I had a question. I was allowed to tailor my internship towards what I was interested in and it gave me a lot of insight into what HR actually would be like once I graduate from college.

Advice
The biggest advice I have is to network. Networking allowed me to get my foot in the door with DCU and make connections with numerous people. I also really learned the value of being kind and respectful to everyone, even if you do not know them, as it could be a future connection.

Information Center Specialist

What I liked
I liked the professional manner of the job, and I found all the knowledge gained incredibly useful in my personal life. I learned in great detail loans, credit, and many other useful financial topics that I would never have known. I also enjoyed the atmosphere, where I made many friends and felt comfortable and valued.
What I wish was different
DCU is not perfect, by any means, as I often was feeling overwhelmed with the amount of information I needed to learn at any given time. We had access to many resources while on calls but it's difficult to understand certain concepts and explain it to members easily. Call centers are not easy-- it's one call after the next, and because the information center is sort of a general question line, the type of question or request varies immensely. DCU only allows you ONE MINUTE after a phone call to type up notes and close the call. 60 seconds. Some calls can be long, tiring, and mentally exhausting. When your 60 seconds is up as you scramble to type notes and go back to calling, you just take another one. It's exhausting and draining. Then, if you go over this minute often, you get emails from your boss telling you to reduce. Every minute of how you spend your time is micromanaged.
Advice
For anyone applying for this job specifically, it will give you great financial insight that you can use throughout your life. However, the learning curve is intense, especially for a student. You will be learning something every single day you didn't know before.
In general, from seeing a thousand different bank accounts, I can tell you that most people drive cars they can't afford to keep up a public image no one cares about. That guy with the BMW? He doesn't own that car, his bank does. His whole paycheck goes towards it, and he's missed five payments before. It's not worth it! Live life within your means-- and give back to others if you can. If you're at a job like this and someone asks you to forgive them for a fee or something, literally why not do it. It doesn't come out of your paycheck. Obv don't let people abuse the system, but this is one small power you have to make others peoples days.
